Half a year has zoomed by since we unleashed Chums into the app stores. Feels like just yesterday, doesn’t it? Let's hit the rewind button and dive into the wild ride we’ve been on together. Buckle up, it’s story time! 🚀
In January, Chums launched quietly but with a strong foundation. From day one, users could enjoy encrypted messaging 🔐 and seamless integration with Matrix servers. On top of basic communication features, we introduced Web3 capabilities like seed phrase management and balance displays, thanks to our initial integration with Everscale and Ethereum blockchains 🧩. January also saw us implementing innoscriptions ✍️, a feature enhancing direct interaction with blockchain elements within Chums. While ironing out early bugs, our team worked diligently to stabilize and optimize the platform, ensuring a smoother experience for our early adopters.
Then came February, and we rolled out a dark theme for those late-night sessions 🌚, along with major bug fixes and performance boosts ⚡️. In March, it was all about federated rooms, ensuring they worked seamlessly with NFT access. Transaction fees were introduced to support our small team 🙏. Deep links were added, making it easier to jump straight into specific parts of the app 🔗. We also implemented classic chat features like message editing and reactions 👍. Chatting is crucial, and there are important updates coming soon!
April and May brought some major updates, especially with decentralized websites 🌍. We integrated our browser with Evername, letting you host your site directly on the blockchain. This also allowed us to launch a donation site for Chums—huge thanks for your support 💜! Using the same tech, we created a Web3 channel for Chums. When a post goes live on the blockchain, it echoes to all our subscribers in a private room within Chums 📢.
We also linked your Chums profile with .ever domains, so you can be found on any server with your Evername. Push notifications 🏎 got a boost too—they now include message text to keep you updated. Additionally, we made numerous small improvements ✨, such as improving the handling of unsent messages, and overall worked on enhancing the UI/UX to keep everything smooth and user-friendly.

🖼 Image Reply Fix: Previously, replying to a message with an image would only show the image without the original message. This bug is squashed! Now, both the image and the original message will be displayed correctly.
🔗 Link Display in Chats: HTTP and HTTPS links now clearly display in your chats, making it easier to identify and click on them.

We Took On the Web3 and AI Unstoppable Hackathon! 🌟

Guess what? We jumped into the Web3 and AI Unstoppable Hackathon, and we've got some exciting news to share with you!
Unstoppable Domains lets you buy and manage decentralized domain names as NFTs. They support domains like .eth, .dao, .nft, and more.
We decided to tackle one of the challenges in the Resolution and User Experience track:
🔗 Implement reverse resolution functionality to associate wallet addresses with user-friendly UNS or ENS.
During the hackathon, we integrated Matrix accounts with Unstoppable Domains (UD). Now you can find and chat with users using their UD domain in a secure room. And send tokens to your Chumsie! Even if they switch servers, you can still find them by their domain. We also added support for UD in our built-in browser, enabling cross-chain interactions with dapps.
Here’s a cool example:
We bought the domain chaintag.nft and linked it to a Chums account. Since this domain is an NFT on Ethereum, and Chums has a bridge to Ethereum, it’s a perfect match🔥 !
Now, anyone can go to the Chums homepage, hit search, and enter chaintag.nft. You’ll find me, even if you don’t know my name or server! Feel free to drop your feedback in a private message. We've also got similar search functionality for .ever domains.
And that's not all!
You can now visit websites linked to UD domains. To show this off to the judges, we put our donation page on IPFS and linked it to chaintag.nft.
