Zirr (b. Hubaish) reported: I heard from Ubayy b. Ka'b a statement made by 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud in which he said: He who gets up for prayer (every night) during the year will hit upon Lailat-ul-Qadr. Ubayy said: By Allah, the One whom there is no diety worthy of worship besides that (Lailat-ul-Qadr) is in Ramadhan (He swore without reservation: ) By Allah, I know the night; it is the night on which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to pray. It is that which precedes the morning of twenty-seventh and its indication is that the sun rises bright on that day without rays.

“The hadīth of Ubayy ibn Ka‘b says that he used to swear that it (Laylatul Qadr) was the night of the 27th,
فِيهِ حَدِيثُ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَحْلِفُ أَنَّهَا لَيْلَةَ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ
But this is one of multiple opinions concerning it.
وَهَذَا أَحَدُ الْمَذَاهِبِ فِيهَا
Most of the 'ulamā (scholars) are of the view that it is an unknown night among the last ten nights of Ramadān,
وَأَكْثَرُ الْعُلَمَاءِ عَلَى أَنَّهَا لَيْلَةً مُبْهَمَةً مِنَ الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ
And it is most likely to be on an odd-numbered night, and the most likely night is the night of the 27th,
وَأَرْجَاهَا أَوْتَارُهَا وَأَرْجَاهَا لَيْلَةَ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ
Or the 23rd,
وَثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ
Or the 21st.
وَإِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ
But the majority of them are of the opinion that it is a specific night that does not move.
وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ أَنَّهَا لَيْلَةٌ مُعَيَّنَةٌ لَا تَنْتَقِلُ
However, some scholars held that it does move (from one day to another).
وَقَالَ الْمُحَقِّقُونَ إِنَّهَا تَنْتَقِلُ
So in one year it may be the night of the 27th,
فَتَكُونُ فِي سَنَةٍ لَيْلَةَ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ
And in another year it may be the night of the 23rd,
وَفِي سَنَةٍ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ
And in another year it may be the night of the 21st,
وَسَنَةٍ لَيْلَةَ إِحْدَى
Or some other night,
وَلَيْلَةً أُخْرَى
And this is what is most apparent (more likely to be correct).
وَهَذَا أَظْهَرُ
In this way we may reconcile among the different ahadīth.”

If a ruler of a land is a disbeliever,
وإذا فرضنا -على التقدير البعيد- أن ولي الأمر كافر،
Does this mean we can incite the people’s hearts against him causing rebellion,
فهل يعني ذلك أن نوغر صدور الناس عليه حتى يحصل التمرد،
Chaos,
والفوضى،
And killing?
والقتال؟!
No! This is wrong!
لا، هذا غلط،
There is no doubt in that!
ولا شك في ذلك،
It’s impossible for benefit to come about by this way!
فالمصلحة التي يريدها هذا لا يمكن أن تحصل بهذا الطريق،
Rather, terrible results would occur!
بل يحصل بذلك مفاسد عظيمة؛

And you accept it from your enemy like your ally.”

'Abdullāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Hanbal reported that his father (Imām Aḥmad) said:
أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّد بْن أبي الصقر حَدَّثَنَا هبة اللَّه الشيرازي حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيّ بْن طلحة أَخْبَرَنَا سليمان الطبراني حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّه بْن أَحْمَد حَدَّثَنَا أبي قَالَ:
“The graves of Ahl Al-Sunnah who committed major sins are gardens (from Paradise),
قبور أهل السنة من أهل الكبائر روضة
Whilst the graves of the heretics (adherents of Bid’ah) who were ascetics are pits (from the Fire).
وقبور أهل البدعة من الزهاد حفرة
The sinners from Ahl Al-Sunnah are the Awliyâ` (beloved or allies) of Allâh,
فساق أهل السنة أولياء اللَّه
Whereas the people of Zuhd (ascetics) of Ahl Al-Bid’ah are the enemies of Allâh.”
وزهاد أهل البدعة أعداء اللَّه.

Abū Umaamah al-Bāhilī who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say:
(7) [صحيح] وعن أبي أمامة رضي الله عنه قال: سمعتُ رسولَ الله - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يقول:
“Whilst I was sleeping two men came to me.
\"بينا أنا نائمٌ أتاني رجُلانِ
They took my by the arm and brought me to a steep rocky mountain.
فأخذا بضَبْعيَّ، فأتيا بي جَبَلاً وعراً،
They said, ‘Climb up.’
فقالا: اصْعَدْ.
I said, ‘I cannot.’
فقلتُ: إنِّي لا أُطيقُه.
They said, ‘We will make it easy for you.’
فقالا: إنّا سنُسَهِّلُه لك.
So I climbed up until I was at the top of the mountain.
فصعَدْتُ حتَّى إذا كنتُ في سواءِ الجَبَلِ،
Then I heard loud voices.
فإذا أنا بأصْواتٍ شديدةٍ،
I said, ‘What are these voices?’
فقلتُ: ما هذه الأصواتُ؟
They said, ‘This is the howling of the people of the Hellfire.”
قالوا: هذا عُواءُ أهلِ النارِ.
Then I was taken until I saw people hanging by their hamstrings, with the sides of their mouths torn and blood pouring from their mouths.’
ثُمَّ انْطَلقَ بي، فإذا أنا بقومٍ مُعَلَّقينَ بعَراقيبِهمْ، مُشَقَّقَةٍ أشْداقُهمُ تسيلُ أشْداقهم دَماً.
I said, ‘Who are these?’
قال: قلتُ: مَنْ هؤلاء؟
He said, ‘These are people who broke their fast before it was time.’”
قيلَ: هؤلاء الذين يُفَطِرونَ قَبْل تَحِلَّةِ صوْمِهِمْ.

Answer: There is no harm in this due to the absence of evidence regarding its prohibition.
لا بأس لعدم الدليل على حرمة ذلك ،
As for the hadīth: “None touches the Qur’ān except the pure.”
وأما حديث \" لا يمس القرآن إلا طاهر \"
Ash-Shawkānī said: “That which is intended is that none touches the Qur’ān except the one who is pure; meaning the believer.” [Bulugh al-Marām #77]
فقال الشوكاني : المراد لا يمس القرآن إلا طاهر ؛ أي مؤمن
He used as an evidence the fact that the Prophet ﷺ said:
بدليل أن النبي - صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم - قال:
“Indeed the believer does not become impure.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhārī #283]
\" إن المؤمن لا ينجس \" ،
Also, the Prophet ﷺ forbade travelling with the Qur’ān to the territories of the enemy. [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim #1869]
وبدليل أن النبي - صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم - نهى أن يسافر بالقرآن إلى أرض العدو.

And perhaps one is (considered to be) persistent (upon disobedience) when he is determined upon the action in one time and not in another.
وَقَدْ يَكُونُ مُصِرًّا إذَا عَزَمَ عَلَى الْفِعْلِ فِي وَقْتٍ دُونَ وَقْتٍ
Such as the one who determines to leave disobedience in the month of Ramadān and not in other months;
كَمَنْ يَعْزِمُ عَلَى تَرْكِ الْمَعَاصِي فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ دُونَ غَيْرِهِ
So this one is not repentant in the least.
فَلَيْسَ هَذَا بِتَائِبِ مُطْلَقًا.
However he is one who leaves the action in the month of Ramadān,
وَلَكِنَّهُ تَارِكٌ لِلْفِعْلِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
And he is rewarded if that abandonment was for Allāh; and out of reverence for the legislative matters of Allāh and avoidance of His forbidden matters in that time.
وَيُثَابُ إذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ التَّرْكُ لِلَّهِ وَتَعْظِيمِ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ وَاجْتِنَابِ مَحَارِمِهِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتِ
However, he is not from the repentant ones who will be forgiven by way of their Tawbah with an absolute forgiveness nor is he persistent upon the sin in an absolute way.
وَلَكِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ التَّائِبِينَ الَّذِينَ يُغْفَرُ لَهُمْ بِالتَّوْبَةِ مَغْفِرَةً مُطْلَقَةً وَلَا هُوَ مُصِرٌّ مُطْلَقًا.
As for the one who Ibnul-Mubārak described, then he is persistent (upon disobedience) if from his intention is returning to consumption of intoxicants (i.e. after leaving it during Ramadān).
وَأَمَّا الَّذِي وَصَفَهُ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ فَهُوَ مُصِرٌّ إذَا كَانَ مِنْ نِيَّتِهِ الْعَوْدُ إلَى شُرْبِهَا.
I (Ibn Taymiyah) say: And the one who has abandoned disobedience in the month of Ramadān while he has within his intention to return to it in other than the month of Ramadān then he is one who is persistent upon disobedience as well.”

“A slave must not be reliant on himself and not be busied with blaming people;
وَلَا يَشْتَغِلُ بِمَلَامِ النَّاسِ وَذَمِّهِمْ؛
But he asks Allāh to aid him in obedience.”

Sāliḥ ibn Bashir said:
وَقد تَوَاتَرَتْ المرائى بذلك فَمِنْهَا مَا ذكره صَالح بن بشير قَالَ
I saw 'Atā' as-Salāmiyy in my sleep after he died.
رَأَيْت عَطاء السلمى فِي النّوم بعد مَوته
So I said to him: “May Allāh have mercy on you. You used to have much sadness in the dunyā.”
فَقلت لَهُ يَرْحَمك الله لقد كنت طَوِيل الْحزن فِي الدُّنْيَا
He said: “Behold, by Allāh, Allāh has certainly rewarded me for that with much happiness and lasting pleasure.”
فَقَالَ أما وَالله لقد أعقبني ذَلِك فَرحا طَويلا وسرورا دَائِما
So I said: “Which level were you placed in?”
فَقلت فِي أى الدَّرَجَات أَنْت
He said: “With those whom Allāh has shown favour to,
قَالَ مَعَ الَّذين أنعم الله عَلَيْهِم
From the prophets,
من النَّبِيين
The truthful,
وَالصديقين
The martyrs,
وَالشُّهَدَاء
And the righteous.”
وَالصَّالِحِينَ

Sakhr ibn Rāshid said:
وَقَالَ صَخْر بن رَاشد
I saw Abdullāh ibn Mubārak in my sleep after he died.
رَأَيْت عبد الله بن الْمُبَارك فِي النّوم بعد مَوته
So I said, “Didn't you die?”
فَقلت أَلَيْسَ قد مت
He said, “Of course.”
قَالَ بلَى
I said, “What did Allāh do with you?”
قلت فَمَا صنع الله بك
He said, “He forgave me with a forgiveness which encompassed every sin.”
قَالَ غفر لى مغْفرَة أحاطت بِكُل ذَنْب
I said, “And what about Sufyān ath-Thawrī?”
فسفيان الثورى

There are none more harmful to the Muslims than them (the Khawārij),
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ شَرًّا عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنْهُمْ:
Neither the Jews nor the Christians,
لَا الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَى ;
For they strove to kill every Muslim who did not agree with their view,
فَإِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْتَهِدِينَ فِي قَتْلِ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ لَمْ يُوَافِقُهُمْ،
Declaring the blood of the Muslims,
مُسْتَحِلِّينَ لِدِمَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
Their wealth, and the slaying of their children to be lawful,
وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَقَتْلِ أَوْلَادِهِمْ،
While declaring them to be disbelievers,
مُكَفِّرِينَ لَهُمْ،
And they considered this to be worship due to their ignorance and their innovation which caused them to go astray.
وَكَانُوا مُتَدَيِّنِينَ بِذَلِكَ لِعَظْمِ جَهْلِهِمْ وَبِدْعَتِهِمُ الْمُضِلَّةِ.
