“A slave must not be reliant on himself and not be busied with blaming people;
وَلَا يَشْتَغِلُ بِمَلَامِ النَّاسِ وَذَمِّهِمْ؛

Sāliḥ ibn Bashir said:
وَقد تَوَاتَرَتْ المرائى بذلك فَمِنْهَا مَا ذكره صَالح بن بشير قَالَ
I saw 'Atā' as-Salāmiyy in my sleep after he died.
رَأَيْت عَطاء السلمى فِي النّوم بعد مَوته
So I said to him: “May Allāh have mercy on you. You used to have much sadness in the dunyā.”
فَقلت لَهُ يَرْحَمك الله لقد كنت طَوِيل الْحزن فِي الدُّنْيَا
He said: “Behold, by Allāh, Allāh has certainly rewarded me for that with much happiness and lasting pleasure.”
فَقَالَ أما وَالله لقد أعقبني ذَلِك فَرحا طَويلا وسرورا دَائِما
So I said: “Which level were you placed in?”
فَقلت فِي أى الدَّرَجَات أَنْت
He said: “With those whom Allāh has shown favour to,
قَالَ مَعَ الَّذين أنعم الله عَلَيْهِم
From the prophets,
من النَّبِيين
The truthful,
وَالصديقين
The martyrs,
وَالشُّهَدَاء
And the righteous.”
وَالصَّالِحِينَ

Sakhr ibn Rāshid said:
وَقَالَ صَخْر بن رَاشد
I saw Abdullāh ibn Mubārak in my sleep after he died.
رَأَيْت عبد الله بن الْمُبَارك فِي النّوم بعد مَوته
So I said, “Didn't you die?”
فَقلت أَلَيْسَ قد مت
He said, “Of course.”
قَالَ بلَى
I said, “What did Allāh do with you?”
قلت فَمَا صنع الله بك
He said, “He forgave me with a forgiveness which encompassed every sin.”
قَالَ غفر لى مغْفرَة أحاطت بِكُل ذَنْب
I said, “And what about Sufyān ath-Thawrī?”
فسفيان الثورى
He said, ”Hooray! He is with those whom Allāh has shown favour to,
قَالَ بخ بخ ذَاك مَعَ الَّذين أنعم الله عَلَيْهِم
Like the prophets,
من النَّبِيين
The truthful,
وَالصديقين
The martyrs,
وَالشُّهَدَاء
And the righteous,
وَالصَّالِحِينَ
what wonderful company!”
وَحسن أُولَئِكَ رَفِيقًا

There are none more harmful to the Muslims than them (the Khawārij),
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ شَرًّا عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنْهُمْ:
Neither the Jews nor the Christians,
لَا الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَى ;
For they strove to kill every Muslim who did not agree with their view,
فَإِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْتَهِدِينَ فِي قَتْلِ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ لَمْ يُوَافِقُهُمْ،
Declaring the blood of the Muslims,
مُسْتَحِلِّينَ لِدِمَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
Their wealth, and the slaying of their children to be lawful,
وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَقَتْلِ أَوْلَادِهِمْ،
While declaring them to be disbelievers,
مُكَفِّرِينَ لَهُمْ،
And they considered this to be worship due to their ignorance and their innovation which caused them to go astray.
وَكَانُوا مُتَدَيِّنِينَ بِذَلِكَ لِعَظْمِ جَهْلِهِمْ وَبِدْعَتِهِمُ الْمُضِلَّةِ.

Abū Dharr reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:
A man from the believers (a person of Tawhīd) will be brought forth on the Day of Judgment.
\" يُؤْتَى بِالرَّجُلِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ،
It will be said: “Present to him his minor sins and conceal from him his major sins.”
فَيُقَالُ: اعْرِضُوا عَلَيْهِ صِغَارَ ذُنُوبِهِ. قَالَ: فَتُعْرَضُ عَلَيْهِ وَيُخَبَّأُ عَنْهُ كِبَارُهَا،
Thus it will be said to him: “On this day you did such and such, and this and that.”
فَيُقَالُ: عَمِلْتَ يَوْمَ كَذَا وَكَذَا كَذَا وَكَذَا،
And he will affirm that and he will not deny it.
وَهُوَ مُقِرٌّ لَا يُنْكِرُ،
And he will be afraid lest his major sins be presented.
وَهُوَ مُشْفِقٌ مِنَ الْكِبَارِ،
It will be said: “Give him in place of every sin he did; a good deed.”
فَيُقَالُ: أَعْطُوهُ مَكَانَ كُلِّ سَيِّئَةٍ عَمِلَهَا حَسَنَةً \"
Thus he will say: “Verily I have sins which I do not see!”
قَالَ: \" فَيَقُولُ: إِنَّ لِي ذُنُوبًا مَا أَرَاهَا \".
Abū Dharr said: So when the Prophet ﷺ mentioned that, he smiled until his molar teeth became visible.
قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ: فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَحِكَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ

Wahb bin Munabih (may Allāh have mercy on him) said: “Tubaa (glad tidings or Jannah) for whomever the Sunna is sufficient for him, and he does not go beyond it.”

Wakī' ibn al-Jarrah said:
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَن بْن مُحَمَّد الخلال، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّه بْن عثمان الصَّفَّار، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد بْن مَخْلَد، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو واثلة الْمَرْوَزِيّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عليّ بْن خشرم، يَقُول: سَمِعْتُ وكيع بْن الجَرَّاح، يَقُول:
“Zakat al-Fitr is to Ramadān as Sujūd as-Sahw is to Salāt (the prayer),
زكاة الفطر لشهر رمضان كسجدتي السهو للصلاة،
It makes up for the shortcomings in Ramadān just as the latter makes up for shortcomings in the Salāt.”

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَن بْن مُحَمَّد الخلال، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّه بْن عثمان الصَّفَّار، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد بْن مَخْلَد، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو واثلة الْمَرْوَزِيّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عليّ بْن خشرم، يَقُول: سَمِعْتُ وكيع بْن الجَرَّاح، يَقُول:
“Zakat al-Fitr is to Ramadān as Sujūd as-Sahw is to Salāt (the prayer),
زكاة الفطر لشهر رمضان كسجدتي السهو للصلاة،
It makes up for the shortcomings in Ramadān just as the latter makes up for shortcomings in the Salāt.”

Saʿīd b. Al-Mūsāyyib – Allāh have mercy on him – said:
عن سعيد بن المسيب أنه قال:
The Sunnah of Al-Fiṭr consists of three things:
\" سنة الفطر ثلاث:

Umāmah Bint Al-Hārith said to her daughter when she being sent off to her husband:
قالت أمامة بنت الحارث لابنتها حين أرادوا أن يحملوها إلى زوجها
My dear daughter,
أيْ بُنيّة
If advice were to be left off due to the refinement of one’s manners then you would be in no need of that.
إنّ الوصية لو تُرِكت لِفَضل أدبٍ تُرِكتْ لذلك منكِ،
However, it is a reminder for the heedless,
ولكنها تذكرة للغافل،
And useful tool for the intelligent.
و معولة للعاقل،
If it were that a woman could go without a husband due to the wealth of her parents,
ولو أن امرأة استغنت عن الزوج لغِنى أبويها،
And their great need for her,
و شدة حاجتهما إليها،
Then you would be the least of the people in need for that.
كنتِ أغنى الناسِ عنه،
However, the women have been created for the men,
ولكن النساء للرجال خُلِقْنَ،
And the men for the women.
ولهن خُلِق الرجال،
My dear daughter,
أيْ بُنَيّة
You have left the environment from which you have sprouted,
إنكِ فارقتِ الجوَّ الذي منه خرجتِ،
And left the life which you have grown up in,
وخلَّفتِ العُشَّ الذي فيه درَجتَِ،
Going to a home that you do not know,
إلى وَكْرٍ لم تعرفيه،
And a companion that you are unfamiliar with.
وقرينٍ لم تألفيه،
He has become, by his authority over you, an overseer and a king.
فأصبَحَ بملكه عليكِ رقيباً ومليكاً،
So be a slave to him and he will be a willing servant to you.
فكوني له أَمَةً يكنْ لكِ عبدا وشيكا،
My dear daughter,
يا بُنَيّة
Take from me ten qualities and they will be for you an asset and a reminder:
احْمِلي عنِّي عشر خِصال يَكُنَّ لكِ ذخْراً وذِكرا:
1. Accompany him in contentment,
الصحبة بالقناعة،
And be amicable with him by hearing and obeying.
و المعاشرة بِحُسن السمع والطاعة،
2. Safeguard where his eyes land,
و التعهد لموقع عينيه،
And safeguard what his nose smells,
و التفقد لموضع أنفه،
So that his eyes never see anything ugly from you,
فلا تقع عيناه منك على قبيح،
And his nose never smells any repugnant odour.
ولا يشَم منك إلا أطيب ريح،
3. Kohl is the best make-up,
والكحل أحسن الحسن،
And water (i.e., good hygiene) is the best perfume.
والماء أطيب الطيب المفقود،
4. Safeguard his meal times,
والتعهد لوقت طعامه،
And keep tranquil his sleep times.
والهدوء عنه حين منامه،
The heat of hunger is infuriating,
فإن حرارة الجوع ملهبة،
And deprivation of sleep is irritating.
وتنغيص النوم مبْغضة،
5. Safeguard his home and his money,
والاحتفاظ ببيته وماله،
And take good care of him, his relatives, and take care of his children.
والإرعاء على نفسه وحشمه وعياله،
6. Safeguarding his money is a sign of good judgement,
فإن الاحتفاظ بالمال حسن التقدير،
And taking care of his children and relatives is a sign of good management.
والإرعاء (الإبقاء) على العيال والحشم حسن التدبير،
7. Do not spread his secrets,
ولا تفشي له سرا،
And do not disobey his commands.
ولا تعصي له أمرا،
If you spread his secrets you will not be safe of him lying to you,
فإنكِ إن أفشيتِ سره لم تأمني غدره،
And if you oppose his commands he will resent you.
وإن عصيتِ أمره أَوْغَرْتِ صدره،
8. Beware of displaying joy when he is upset,
ثم اتّقي مع ذلك الفرح إن كان تَرِحاَ،
And sadness when he is happy.
والاكتئاب عنده إن كان فَرِحاَ،
The first is irresponsible,
فإن الخصلة الأولى من التقصير،
And the second is antagonistic.
والثانية من التكدير،
9. The more you honor him the more veneration he will have for you;
وكوني أشد ما تكونين له إعظاما،
The more you are in agreement with him,
يكن أشد ما يكون لك إكراما،
The longer your time will be with him.
وأشد ما تكونين له موافقة، أطول ما تكونين له مرافقة،
10. And know, that you will not attain that which you want from him until you give preference to pleasing him over pleasing yourself,
واعلمي أنك لا تَصِلِين إلى ما تُحبين حتى تُؤْثِرِي رِضاه على رِضاك،
And to his desire over your own,
وهواه على هواك،
Whether you like it or not.
فيما أحببتِ وكرِهتِ
And may Allāh give good to all.
والله يخير لك

Imām Muḥammad Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhāb (may Allāh have mercy on him) said:
قال شيخ الإسلام محمد بن عبد الوهاب، رحمه الله تعالى:
“The Imāms of every mathhab have agreed that whoever gains control of a land or lands has the ruling of the Imām in all aspects.
الأئمة مجمعون من كل مذهب، على أن من تغلب على بلد أو بلدان له حكم الإمام في جميع الأشياء،
It is not known from a single scholar that anything from the rulings is only applicable for a single main ruler.”
ولا يعرفون أحدا من العلماء ذكر أن شيئا من الأحكام، لا يصح إلا بالإمام الأعظم.

Ibn 'Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with him) said regarding the saying of Allāh:
جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
“The whisperer who withdraws.” [Al-Nās 114:4]
{الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ} [الناس: 4]، قَالَ:
“The Shaytān perches over the heart of the son of Ādam,
«الشَّيْطَانُ جَاثِمٌ عَلَى قَلْبِ ابْنِ آدَمَ،
So if he (son of Ādam) is forgetful and heedless he (the Shaytān) whispers (doubts and desires in his heart),
فَإِذَا سَهَا وَغَفَلَ وَسْوَسَ،
But when he remembers Allāh (Exalted be He) he flees.”
وَإِذَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ خَنَسَ»

Al-Imām Muḥammad bin al-Husayn al-Ājurī said:
قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ:
The 'Ulamā' past and present did not differ on the fact that the Khawārij are an evil people,
لَمْ يَخْتَلِفِ الْعُلَمَاءُ قَدِيمًا وَحَدِيثًا أَنَّ الْخَوَارِجَ قَوْمُ سُوءٍ
Those who are disobedient to Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ,
عُصَاةٌ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى وَلِرَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،
Even if they pray and fast,
وَإِنْ صَلَّوْا وَصَامُوا،
And exert themselves in worship,
وَاجْتَهَدُوا فِي الْعِبَادَةِ،
That does not benefit them,
فَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِنَافِعٍ لَهُمْ،
Yes and even if they make apparent commanding the right and forbidding the wrong,
نَعَمْ , وَيُظْهِرُونَ الْأَمْرَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْيِ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ،
That does not benefit them,
وَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِنَافِعٍ لَهُمْ؛
Because they explain the Qur'ān according to their whims and desires,
لِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَتَأَوَّلُونَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى مَا يَهْوُونَ،
And they distort it upon the Muslims.
وَيُمَوِّهُونَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ

قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ:

Abū 'Abdillaah Aḥmad bin Muḥammad bin 'Abdillaah, the Scribe, reported to us, saying: Abū Muslim 'Abdur-Rahmān bin Muḥammad bin 'Abdillaah bin Mihraan narrated to us, saying: I read to Abū Ja'far Muḥammad bin Aḥmad bin Muḥammad As-Sub'hee: Abū Rajaa Muḥammad bin Hamdawaih bin Mūsā narrated to us: Aḥmad bin Jameel narrated to us, saying: Hafs bin Humaid reported to us that Ibn Al-Mubārak said:
أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْكَاتِبُ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ السُّبَحِيِّ، ثنا أَبُو رَجَاءٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْدَوَيْهِ بْنِ مُوسَى، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ، قَالَ: أَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ:
“There was a wealthy man, and every time he heard of a scholar he would go to acquire knowledge from him.
" كَانَ رَجُلٌ ذَا مَالٍ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ بِعَالِمٍ إِلَّا أَتَاهُ حَتَّى يَقْتَبِسَ مِنْهُ،
One time he heard that in such and such place there was a scholar,
فَسَمِعَ أَنَّ فِي مَوْضِعِ كَذَا وَكَذَا عَالِمًا،
So he embarked on a ship to go visit him.
فَرَكِبَ السَّفِينَةَ
Aboard the ship was a woman who asked him: 'What are you doing here?'
وَفِيهَا امْرَأَةٌ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا أَمْرُكَ يَا هَذَا؟
He replied: “I am possessed with the love of knowledge,
قَالَ: إِنِّي مَشْغُوفٌ بِحُبِّ الْعِلْمِ،
So when I heard that in such and such a place there is a scholar I set out to visit him.”
فَسَمِعْتُ أَنَّ فِي مَوْضِعِ كَذَا عَالِمًا آتِيهُ،
She said: 'Do you not know that every time you increase in knowledge,
قَالَتْ: يَا هَذَا، كُلَّمَا زِيدَ فِي عِلْمِكَ
Then you must also increase in actions?
تَزِيدُ فِي عَمَلِكَ
Or are you going to increase your knowledge,
أَوْ تَزِيدُ فِي عِلْمِكَ،
While your actions are at a standstill?'
وَالْعَمَلُ مَوْقُوفٌ؟
So the man reflected on this and then turned back (homeward),
فَانْتَبَهَ الرَّجُلُ وَرَجَعَ،
And began to perform actions.”
وَأَخَذَ فِي الْعَمَلِ "

Ibn 'Umar (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “Verily, I love to place between me and the harām (unlawful) a barrier from the lawful (halāl). I do not puncture it.”
وَرُوِيَ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ أَنْ أَدَعَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ الْحَرَامِ سُتْرَةً مِنَ الْحَلَالِ لَا أَخْرِقُهَا.

So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.
فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُۥ
And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُۥ
Surah Az-Zalzala 99:7-8

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُۥ
