Fig. 1 - In 1985, a monument to the Liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the German Fascist Invaders was unveiled in Riga.

Fig. 2 - This sculpture represents the Motherland. 1941-1945 refers to the Great Patriotic War. Russia participated in many wars, but still, when we say “the war” we mean it because nothing else can be compared.

Fig. 3 - The sculpture represents Soviet servicemen liberating us from fascism.

Fig. 4 - The central section represents the Victory salute for victory over fascism.

Fig. 5 - On 9th May 2022, comemorations were not permitted in Riga, so people brought flowers to the monument. Authorities didn’t like it and ordered them removed. As you can see, tractors were used to do this.

Fig. 6 - The next day, people replaced the flowers!

And then the Latvian authorities decided to demolish the monument. There were also 5K people demanding the demolition of the monument. A counter rally was not permitted.
The demolition works started on 22nd August 2022.

Fig. 7 - On 23rd August, they demolished the Soviet Warriors. Fallen warriors cannot now defend their Motherland.
Fig. 8 - On 24th August, they demolished Motherland, and this is how they did it. Yes, they can easily raise their hands against the Motherland.
Fig. 9 - On 25th August, they demolished the central section. Now there is no Victory salute, no victory over fascism.

So, anti-fascists brought flowers to the monument, and authorities ordered their removal. Then, the authorities fully demolished the monument. Now, add one more fact: every 16th March, Riga witnesses rally in the honor of the Latvian Waffen-SS legionnaires (Fig. 10). Among others, members of parliament, youth, and even children participate in the rally.

And now here is a question: if a state demolishes a monument devoted to those who fought against fascism and permits a rally honoring those who swore to Hitler, where is it moving? For us, the answer is evident: the state is steadily moving towards fascism.
