🕙 After 18 years, Apple is killing its 9-minute snooze

😁 That can only mean one thing – it's finally time to sleep as much as we need!

🔢 In iOS 26, the alarm clock now allows to change the repeat interval to any number of minutes, instead of the standard 9 minutes. There is also a new alarm clock interface on the lock screen with large buttons and an enlarged current time display.

⏰ AlarmKit has been released for developers, allowing third-party apps to create functionality related to the Clock app and use system interface elements to display their features.

🎧 AirPods will get a new microphone mode in the fall

🎤 Thanks to the update, Apple headphone microphones will be able to function not as a speakerphone transmitter, but as a standalone microphone with full voice source detection functionality.

Finally, we will be able to hear conversation partners during the calls...

📸 As for the Camera app – it will be possible to press and hold the AirPods stem to take a photo or start/end a video recording.

😴 AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 will detect when the user has fallen asleep with the headphones on. If music or a video was playing – playback will automatically pause.

🔜 In addition, Apple has announced the first public beta version of AirPods firmware, which will be available in July along with other public beta builds.

📲 A website will become an app with iOS and iPad OS 26

📰 In iOS and iPadOS 26, users will be able to install any website as a Progressive Web App (PWA) from the Safari browser's "Add to Home Screen" option, regardless of whether the website has a manifest file (a file that contains metadata about a set of accompanying files). This means that users can turn any website into a PWA, effectively making it behave like a native app on their device. It will also be possible to switch to the normal icon-shortcut mode, which opens in Safari.

🧭 However, unlike macOS, links within the established PWA are not fixed. This means that when you click on a link in an email or message, the installed PWA will be opened on mac OS by default, and on iOS, Safari always opens by default.

🎵 A music lover's dream: a smooth transition between songs on the iPhone

🎚 Now DJ mixes will be automatically created in the Music app. It will officially start working with the release of iOS 26.

ℹ️ The new feature smoothly adjusts the volume and frequency of songs. For comparison, the usual "fade-in" in Apple Music simply overlays the tracks on top of each other. With AutoMix, the transition becomes completely seamless.

👂 New data about the foldable iPhone

📱 According to Chinese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Foxconn is expected to officially launch the development of the assembly project in late 2025. At this point, many component specifications (including the hinge) have yet to be approved.

📆 The foldable display is the only component that has approved specs. They will be supplied by Samsung Display in quantities of 7-8 million panels. However, although the panels will begin to be delivered this year, the device itself will not be assembled in full and in large-scale volumes until 2026.

🧮 Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple has placed an order for the assembly of 15-20 million folding iPhones for the next 2-3 year cycle, not just for 2026. That is, the company predicts a relatively small demand for the novelty and therefore is already calculating delivery plans for 2027 and 2028. The probable reason is its high price and correspondingly low demand. Although these plans could still change.

💻 Apple had told students ‘how to convince your parents to get you a Mac’...

...but later removed the video from YouTube. It’s not clear why.

📰 The seven-minute video was posted to Apple’s YouTube channel. It featured incoming college students practicing how to pitch their parents on getting them a Mac instead of a PC for college.

The presenter in the video:

Can’t put a price on a healthy spine. One of the main factors affecting spine health in teens is, you guessed it, school bag weight. And the MacBook Air only weighs 2.7 pounds. Hey, maybe your parents don’t care about your spine. I doubt that, right?

So to wrap things up, you can either buy a MacBook Air for $899, or you can buy a PC, but you also have to buy antivirus software, a manual backup software, a protective case, a guard dog to protect it from your roommate, an external power bank…I mean, it’s insane.
