📲 A website will become an app with iOS and iPad OS 26

📰 In iOS and iPadOS 26, users will be able to install any website as a Progressive Web App (PWA) from the Safari browser's "Add to Home Screen" option, regardless of whether the website has a manifest file (a file that contains metadata about a set of accompanying files). This means that users can turn any website into a PWA, effectively making it behave like a native app on their device. It will also be possible to switch to the normal icon-shortcut mode, which opens in Safari.

🧭 However, unlike macOS, links within the established PWA are not fixed. This means that when you click on a link in an email or message, the installed PWA will be opened on mac OS by default, and on iOS, Safari always opens by default.

🎵 A music lover's dream: a smooth transition between songs on the iPhone

🎚 Now DJ mixes will be automatically created in the Music app. It will officially start working with the release of iOS 26.

👂 New data about the foldable iPhone

📱 According to Chinese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Foxconn is expected to officially launch the development of the assembly project in late 2025. At this point, many component specifications (including the hinge) have yet to be approved.

📆 The foldable display is the only component that has approved specs. They will be supplied by Samsung Display in quantities of 7-8 million panels. However, although the panels will begin to be delivered this year, the device itself will not be assembled in full and in large-scale volumes until 2026.

🧮 Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple has placed an order for the assembly of 15-20 million folding iPhones for the next 2-3 year cycle, not just for 2026. That is, the company predicts a relatively small demand for the novelty and therefore is already calculating delivery plans for 2027 and 2028. The probable reason is its high price and correspondingly low demand. Although these plans could still change.

📰 The seven-minute video was posted to Apple’s YouTube channel. It featured incoming college students practicing how to pitch their parents on getting them a Mac instead of a PC for college.

📰 Bloomberg reports that Apple executives were considering acquiring startup Perplexity to catch up on lost AI momentum. The new search could become the main replacement for Google amid a possible partnership breakup with Google.

📱 According to the source, a potential merger with Perplexity could be Apple's strategic response to a possible breakup of its search agreement with Google - the same contract that has Google as the default on iPhones. In April 2025, the U.S. Justice Department demanded that such arrangements be canceled, deeming them in violation of antitrust laws.

😶 Perplexity responded to the publications by saying it knew nothing about the negotiations with Apple. There was no comment from Apple itself either.

👝 iPhone users aren't happy about Apple promoting 'F1 Movie' with Wallet app notification

Sometimes, indeed, Apple's ads for movies and TV series are so aggressive that it feels like you're literally being “forced” to watch - as was the case with their “Severance” series.

📰 Apple sent out an ad to some iPhone users in the form of a Wallet app push notification – movie ticket company Fandango is offering on a pair of tickets to Apple's new film "F1: The Movie."

🤬 iPhone users who received the notifications have complained about it across Reddit, 𝕏, and other online discussion platforms. Some people are especially upset about receiving a push notification ad through the Wallet app because it is a very important app for personal finances, so simply turning off notifications for the entire app is not a feasible solution.

ℹ️ iOS 26 beta adds an "Offers & Promotions" toggle to the Wallet app, allowing users to opt in or out of receiving special offers and discounts available from Apple and its unspecified partners. However, Apple sent out to the push notification ad to iPhone users on iOS 18 too, and those users seemingly did not explicitly opt in to receive such an ad. For that reason, some people are disappointed in Apple.

😴 At Apple, we found that when both buttons are the same size, people were 30% more likely to oversleep. During testing, we had a version of Clock that logged all touch gestures into a heat map.

📰 Apple wants to create its own movie theater distribution agency

🏎 Amid the high-profile launch of Apple Original Films' “F1,” the company is considering creating its own distribution arm, the WSJ reports.

🧮 Right now, Apple doesn't distribute movies directly. That's delegated to its big movie partner Warner Bros. Pictures, who manage the global release of movies, including “F1.” However, their share of revenue increases in proportion to total ticket sales and Apple wants to earn more. To do so and are looking at ways to operate without any restrictions on their own.

📆 Ming-Chi Kuo shared his data with a plan for 2025–2028 for Apple Vision and smart glasses. According to him, Apple will not release any completely new head-mounted devices in 2026, as several products are planned for 2027.

👓 Apple sees head-mounted devices as the next big trend in electronics. The company is currently developing at least seven projects, including three Apple Vision series products and four smart glasses options. Five of these products have confirmed development timelines, while two remain unknown.

I believe—and I doubt anyone would disagree—that Apple could build the best Meta Ray-Ban–like smart glasses on the market. Yet its decision-making in this area has been surprisingly slow. Putting AI aside for a moment, this category could cannibalize at least some AirPods demand, directly impacting Apple’s hardware business. Still, the company has remained conspicuously inactive.

Apple has historically excelled at creating entirely new product categories and courageously cannibalizing its own products. To describe an Apple product as "Ray-Ban-like smart glasses" seems almost like an insult to a company of Apple's stature. Yet ironically, this remains the most objective way to describe the current state of the industry.

But better late than never. Moreover, Apple's renewed push for hardware innovation is undoubtedly good news for the supply chain.

📰 Apple is considering using AI technology from Anthropic PBC or OpenAI to power a new version of Siri, potentially sidelining its own in-house models.

🧐 The company has talked with both Anthropic and OpenAI about using their large language models for Siri, and has asked them to train versions of their models that could run on Apple's cloud infrastructure for testing.

🤔 If Apple moves forward with using third-party models, it would represent a significant reversal and an acknowledgment that the company is struggling to compete in generative AI, and could allow Apple to offer Siri features on par with AI assistants on Android phones.
