📱 For the first time in 15 years, Apple surpasses Samsung in the smartphone market

📦 In 2025, Apple will ship around 243 million iPhones—compared to 235 million smartphones from Samsung. This will allow the company to claim 19.4% of the global market—and overtake its competitor for the first time since 2010.

📰 The year has been especially successful for Apple thanks to the release of the iPhone 17 lineup: in the first month, sales of the new models were on average 15% higher than last year's. Plus, users who bought smartphones back during the pandemic have begun upgrading their devices en masse.

🔮 According to market forecasts, Apple could maintain its leadership at least until 2029—thanks to expanding its lineup and releasing a foldable model.

📲 iPad mini with OLED delayed — new reports point to a late-2026 launch

📰 According to reliable insider Instant Digital, Apple is now expected to release the long-rumored OLED iPad mini in Q3–Q4 2026, pushing the timeline further than previous predictions.

ℹ️ Samsung Display reportedly began developing new panels for the next-gen iPad mini back in spring 2024, including OLED variants. Display analyst Ross Young later confirmed these plans and reiterated them toward the end of the year. In early 2025, Digital Chat Station claimed Apple was already testing small OLED panels from Samsung in preparation for mass production. And in fall 2025, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg again mentioned the model, suggesting an early-2026 release — but the latest reports indicate a delay.

🧠 OLED will be the key upgrade of the new mini, but not the only one. Recent leaks suggest the device may ship with the A19 Pro chip the same one in the iPhone 17 Pro.

👂 Meanwhile, there’s no sign of OLED coming to the iPad Air. According to current leaks, it will stick with an IPS panel for at least one more generation.

🫥 Insider Majin Bu has vanished without a tracе

For the entire year, he was one of the first to post leaks about Apple gadgets.

🕵️‍♂️ The guy stopped posting new content about a month before Apple's fall event. Now, his 𝕏 account has been deleted. Meanwhile, all of Majin Bu's leaks turned out to be accurate.

👩‍⚖️ Many recalled how aggressively Apple cracks down on leaks. The company's product security is handled by former intelligence agents. Therefore, the most popular theory is that Majin was found and threatened with a lawsuit.

Don't mess with Tim Cook...

📰 The Apple founding document to be auctioned for $2–4 million

📜 Christie’s will auction the three-page 1976 partnership contract that launched Apple Computer. The auction will be held on January 23, 2026. Both documents will be offered as a single lot: the original Apple founding agreement and Wayne’s withdrawal papers.

📊 The document is estimated at $2–4 million and could become the most expensive artifact in the company's history. The contract was signed by Steve Jobs (with a 45% stake), Steve Wozniak (45%), and Ron Wayne (10%). Just days later, Wayne withdrew from the partnership and sold his share for $800.

Had he kept that 10%, it would be worth about $409 billion today...

📰 Apple has officially announced that John Giannandrea is leaving his position. He will remain in an advisory role until spring, after which he will retire. Giannandrea has led Apple's AI division since 2018.

📱 He will be succeeded by Amar Subramanya—former Vice President of AI at Microsoft, who previously spent 16 years at Google and was responsible for the development of Gemini Assistant.

🤷‍♂️ The departure of the top executive is linked to the unsuccessful launch of Apple Intelligence. So far, the tech giant is lagging in the AI race: the company failed to release the product on time and quickly integrate AI into its voice assistant, Siri.

🤝 Apple is teaming up with Intel again — but in a completely new way

📱 According to Ming-Chi Kuo, starting in 2027 Intel will manufacture some M-series chips (entry-level ones for base MacBook Air and iPad) at its U.S. factories.

🇺🇸 Architecture stays the same — pure Apple Silicon (ARM). Intel is just the foundry this time. The main goal: slap that “Made in USA” label on Apple devices.

📰 Alan Dye, Apple’s Head of UI Design, is leaving the company to join Meta

ℹ️ Dye has led Apple’s UI design team since 2015, after Jony Ive moved into the role of Chief Design Officer. He joined Apple back in 2006 as a creative director in marketing, later moving to Ive’s interface team in 2012 to work on iOS 7. Over the years, he contributed to the design of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS, and played a key role in shaping the Vision Pro interface and the updated Liquid Glass design.

🤓 Apple plans to replace him with Stephen Lemay — a designer who has been with the company for more than 25 years. According to Tim Cook, Lemay has been instrumental in every major Apple interface since 1999 and sets an exceptionally high design standard.

📱 On December 31, Dye will join Meta as Director of Design, where he will lead a new division overseeing both hardware and software design for products like headsets and smart glasses. Meta is also hiring another Apple designer — Billy Sorrentino, who spent the last decade working on UI design, including the new Liquid Glass redesign for iOS 26.

📰 iPod co-creator tipped as Tim Cook’s potential successor

🤔 Recent senior departures at Apple have reignited speculation about who might eventually replace Tim Cook as CEO — and unexpectedly, Tony Fadell’s name has resurfaced.

👂 According to The Information, Fadell — one of the creators of the iPod and a former Apple executive — has privately expressed interest in returning to lead the company. Some former Apple employees believe a tougher, more disruptive leader could give the company a much-needed shake-up. After leaving Apple, Fadell founded Nest and later sold it to Google for $3.2 billion.

🤷‍♂️ However, there’s no indication that Apple’s current leadership is seriously considering him. Fadell left the company back in 2010 and remains a controversial figure, making this scenario highly unlikely.

👓 Apple is developing its own smart glasses — and they may be announced as early as next year

📰 According to 9to5Mac, Cupertino is actively working on Apple Glasses — smart eyewear similar to Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley, but deeply integrated into Apple’s ecosystem.

Here’s what’s known so far:
👓 Small built-in cameras and sensors in the frame
🔊 Integrated speakers and microphones for interaction
🤪 A new Siri powered by Apple Intelligence
🥽 A lightweight version of visionOS tailored for glasses
📱 Tight pairing with the iPhone: heavy processing on the phone, quick tasks on the glasses
🩺 Potential health-tracking features (Apple has been testing this for years)
🎨 Multiple frame styles and colors, similar to Meta

The device is expected to use an energy-efficient S-series chip like in the Apple Watch, while the cameras will be able to recognize objects and provide information on the fly.

🔮 With Meta and Google doubling down on AI-glasses, 2025–2026 is shaping up to be the first real showdown in the smart-glasses market.

🖥️ New Apple Studio Display may get ProMotion, HDR, and A19 Chip

📰 According to findings in Apple’s internal code (spotted in iOS 26), the next-generation Studio Display — codenamed J527 — may feature variable refresh rates up to 120Hz with ProMotion and full HDR support.

👍 This would be a major upgrade over the current model, which is limited to 60Hz and SDR. HDR support strongly suggests a move to a mini-LED panel, offering higher brightness, better contrast, and more accurate color reproduction.

🧠 The code also mentions a built-in A19 chip — far more powerful than the A13 used in today’s display — potentially enabling improved video processing, camera features, and overall performance.

📆 The updated version is expected to arrive in the first half of 2026, possibly alongside the next generation of Macs powered by the M5 chip.

The update is already available. Here’s what’s new:

📱 iOS 26.2 & iPadOS 26.2

A new opacity slider lets you adjust the “frosted glass” effect of the clock from 0% to 100%.

🎗️ Urgent tasks in Reminders
You can now mark tasks as urgent. When the time comes, a full alarm will go off instead of a simple notification.

• the display only
• the display + camera flash
Previously, only the flash was available.

📲 iPadOS 26.2 only

💻 macOS 26.2
💡 Edge Light
A new feature that turns your screen into a virtual ring light for video calls in low-light conditions.

💨 AirDrop codes
AirDrop codes are now available on macOS as well, working the same way as on iOS and iPadOS.
