📞 Tim Cook complained to Trump about EU fines imposed on Apple

🇺🇸 The former US president said he would not allow the European Union to “take advantage of American companies” if he wins the election.

“Three hours ago, he [Cook] called me. He said the European Union has just fined us $15 billion... Then on top of that, they got fined by the European Union another $2 billion. He [Cook] said something that was interesting. He said they’re using that to run their enterprise, meaning Europe is their enterprise. I said, that’s a lot... But Tim, I got to get elected first, but I’m not going to let them take advantage of our companies — that won’t, you know, be happening.”

🧾 In March, the EU fined Apple around $2 billion after finding that Apple used its dominance to restrict music streaming apps from telling customers about cheaper subnoscription deals outside the App Store. The EU later won its fight to make Apple pay $14.4 billion in unpaid taxes.

💬 The Verge requested a comment from Apple, but the company did not respond. The election will be held on November 5.

🎃 Apple's schedule for the next week from Mark Gurman

📆 In his latest posts on 𝕏, he said an "M4 Mac launch" is on Apple's schedule for next week, but he did not mention a specific day.

⏰ In the next post, Gurman said that Apple is inviting journalists and content creators to a hands-on experience in Los Angeles next Wednesday, and he believes this means the new Macs would need to be announced before then.

⏳ Anyway, it looks like Apple will announce the first Macs with M4 chips in around a week from now at the latest, based on these latest claims. It's still not entirely clear if it will be an online event or if the products will be announced in press releases on the Apple Newsroom website only. There is still time left in October for Apple to invite the media to watch an online event, but it's hardly ever to believe. We'll see!

📰 Indonesia has banned the sale of the iPhone 16

🇮🇩 Indonesia blocked Apple Inc. from selling its latest iPhones in Southeast Asia’s largest economy, saying the company has yet to meet local investment requirements.

The industry ministry said earlier in October that Apple has only invested 1.5 trillion rupiah ($95 million) in Indonesia, below its commitment of 1.7 trillion rupiah. Apple built four developer academies in the country in lieu of establishing a local manufacturing facility, though CEO Tim Cook said in April that the company was looking into the feasibility of doing so.
