🔎 The nano-texture on new MacBook Pro and iMac displays has been applied differently

☀️ The effect of this special glass on the displays in the new MacBook Pro and iMac compared to regular glass is noticeable, especially in the sun or in the light of a nearby lamp.

However, there is a slight difference in how exactly it was applied:

💻 In the case of MacBook Pro, the frames around the screen are also nano-textured, with the only clear area left just for the new wide-angle camera.

🖥️ New iMac has the coating only over the screen itself and the white frame of the iMac is not covered with a nano-texture layer, and considering that Apple's monoblock has the whole front part under glossy glass, this decision is controversial. It turns out to be exactly the same as with iPad Pro, where the nano-texture display does not cover the frames around the touch part of the display.

💬 Owners of Macs with nano-textured glass, how do you like the new display in the operation?

🚨 A really 'important' update

📆 All news sources are trumpeting an important update – eight new emoji will be released in 2025. How did users used to live without:

A radish, a harp, a fingerprint, a blotch, a tree trunk, a shovel, a face with bags under its eyes and the flag of Sark Island.

🤔 Unicode is reporting new emoji for 2025 and 2026, not looking at Genmoji – generating own emoji – in case Apple Intelligence does launch.

📱 Speaking of emoji, in the publicly available iOS 18.1 update, the clipboard emoji have gotten larger, harder to search for, and, often by accident, you can tap on the stickers that appear in the left corner of the screen when you don't need to. Or is the new emoji format, on the other hand, more convenient for you?

🏠 Apple is almost in the smart home already

📰 Two pieces of news at once from two reputable sources.

1️⃣ Mark Gurman says that Apple will release a smart home control screen in spring 2025. The device will run on a new OS combining elements of watchOS and iOS StandBy Mode, with a dynamic interface that adapts to distance. The main control is via Siri voice commands using App Intents technology, although the screen supports touch controls.

🔍 The gadget is the size of two iPhone screens (6”, roughly square) and has speakers, a FaceTime camera and a battery. It will support Safari, Music, Notes and other apps, but without access to the App Store. The home screen can host widgets and Apple Home controls. Security is emphasized, including video and audio doorbell functions, as well as integration with video cameras and security systems.

2️⃣ At the same time, Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple plans to enter the market of IP cameras for smart home with HomeKit support. Mass production will start in 2026, Goertek will be the exclusive assembler. The cameras will integrate with Apple's ecosystem via Wi-Fi or Matter.

🧭 Apple gears up to launch a new AirTag four years after the first model

📰 Bloomberg reports that the new version – code-named B589 — will look similar to the current model, but offer better range, bolster the onboard wireless chip and improve privacy.

🕵️‍♂️ That includes making it more difficult for someone to remove the speaker from the AirTag. Since the device launched in 2021, some people have unfortunately used the product as a tool for stalking — and removing the speaker makes it less likely for someone to discover a hidden AirTag.

👩‍⚖️ Apple is still contending with lawsuits over the device, and it’s in everyone’s interest to make the new model more tamper-proof.

📺 Apple may be looking into developing its own TV

📺 The company is considering creating a branded TV, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggested. Apple has been thinking about releasing an Apple TV since Steve Jobs, but the company has decided to revisit the idea only now.

🏠 It's still not entirely clear what new Apple TV can offer: devices from LG, Samsung and other brands already offer support for AirPlay, HomeKit and Apple TV+. Most likely, Apple's main advantage will be their branded aesthetics and integration with the ecosystem, including other smart home devices.

📰 Apple reportedly prepping powerful new AI version of Siri for 2026

🤖 The company is developing a new version of Siri that would work more like popular AI bots such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

🗺 The goal is to catch up with other AIs by equipping Siri with more advanced and conversational skills, Gurman said in a story published Thursday, citing "people with knowledge of the matter."

🤪 Dubbed "LLM Siri" by Apple employees (LLM standing for large language model), the new Siri is already being tested internally on iPhones, iPads, and Macs as a standalone app. But if all goes well, the new assistant will eventually replace the Siri we all know and have a hard time loving.

📆 Apple could announce the new AI as soon as 2025 as part of iOS 19 and macOS 16. The new OS editions should launch next September, as expected. However, LLM Siri won't debut until the spring of 2026, similar to the way the company is doling out Apple Intelligence in dribs and drabs. However, given the work involved and these early reports, that timeframe could change.

🔨 iFixit got inside MacBook Pro M4 and found no noticeable changes

🧠 There are almost no internal changes in the new MacBook Pro on the M4 Pro chip. The layout is identical to its predecessor, and the only difference is the larger heatsink.

😰 To remove the battery, you'll still need to remove the trackpad, and getting to the logic board is “incredibly difficult and tedious” because of the large number of screws and cables.

👍 All in all, repairing the new MacBook Pro doesn't get any more complicated, which is a plus.

🎧 Apple has no plans for major AirPods Max updates after USB-C version

📱 According to the post on 𝕏 by Mark Gurman, Apple does not intend to make any major updates to its AirPods Max headphones after the release of the USB-C model in 2024.

🔌 The AirPods Max were released in December 2020 for $549 and have not received updates for almost four years. Only in September 2024, a version with USB-C and several new colours appeared. However, there were no significant updates, such as the H2 chip or adaptive audio.

📉 Gurman notes that despite the high price, AirPods Max have their audience. However, their low popularity among buyers does not allow Apple to invest in the development of new models.

🎧 Apple will leave the headphones in their current form for several more years, and no price reduction is expected at the moment.

📰 Major redesign for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max

👂 The Information reported, citing its insiders, that in addition to the iPhone 17 Air, which should become the thinnest iPhone in the lineup, other iPhone 17 models will get a new case design.

🔍 These will be significant changes:
First of all, all devices will switch to aluminum frames instead of steel and titanium for some reason. The back panel of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models will have a new part-aluminum and part-glass design: the top half of the back panel will consist of a rectangular (still) protruding camera unit, but now in aluminum instead of glass (looks like it will become like iPad Pro M4). The bottom half will remain glass to support MagSafe wireless charging.

📱 About the iPhone 17 Air
Insiders specify that in all current prototypes, which are 5 to 6 mm thick there is no SIM card tray. That is, it is expected to support only eSIM for all regions, but in question so far remains China, Hong Kong and Macau, where traditionally sold devices with two physical nanoSIM.

📱 More on the prototypes
One of the iPhone 17 Air prototypes only has a single speaker grid on the bottom edge. And another prototype of the ultra-thin iPhone has a single rear camera placed not in the usual corner, but in the center. However, these are just considered variants and everything can still change, because these are early prototypes, and the release of the new model is just under a year away.

🇨🇳 Apple is working hard to launch Apple Intelligence in China

📈 Tim Cook traveled to China for the China International Supply Chain Expo, where he will present the company's future strategy to local ministers and technology partners.

I value them [our local partners] very highly. We couldn't do what we do without them. I'm proud to be here and Apple has something to present to our partners here.

said Tim at the expo to Chinese media.

🤝 Tim also arrived in China to meet with the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang. The purpose of the meeting is described by local sources as the preparation of regulatory requirements and conditions for their implementation, which will form the basis for the launch of new Apple services in China.

💬 According to Cook, “Apple is now working hard to launch Apple Intelligence in China”. Therefore, Apple and the CEO himself, as part of his trip to China, may be involved in discussions with several Chinese tech companies, including search giant Baidu, ByteDance (the Chinese division of TikTok) and AI startup Moonshot, to incorporate some of their features into Apple Intelligence within China, as required by local law.

😉 There's a very long and complicated process ahead, but after face-to-face talks between Apple representatives and Chinese partners and ministers things could move much faster.

🥽 Apple Vision Pro has been developed since at least 2008

📆 A 2008 patent shows that the company had been working on Vision Pro for at least 15 years before it finally launched. Both the patent drawing and the denoscription of the device are remarkably consistent with the product that finally launched in 2024.

📈 The display technology needed to turn the idea into reality didn’t even exist then, but Apple still had a clear vision of what it wanted to achieve – and was prepared to keep developing it until it finally was feasible, albeit at a very high price.

🐌 The big question now is how much longer it will take for the company to be able to offer a more affordable Apple Vision product without making too many compromises along the way. The most recent reporting suggests Apple has put this project on the back-burner for now as it focuses on a 2nd-gen Pro device likely to be powered by an M5 chip.

🍏 Among new features that visionOS 2 brought there is Panoramic productivity with Mac Virtual Display that allows you to use your MacBook display around you.

🥽 Like many other 'yummy' features from Apple the one above 'coming later this year'. All updates in the new visionOS can be found here.
