🤔 What will be the prices for iPhone 16 in the US when new trade duties come into effect

Better buy before the price goes up...

📰 Analyst Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research, believes Apple will need to raise prices by at least 30% on average to offset the duties. They are due to take effect on April 9.

💸 Based on projections for the maximum rate (43%), the price of the minimum type budget iPhone 16e model will now increase from $599 to $859. This will also get rid of a special exemption that allowed the model to pay a lower percentage of tax to the customer of the product if the market price of the unit is up to $800 – this measure also being eliminated from May 2025.

・The base 128GB iPhone 16 could cost $1140 instead of $799.
・iPhone 16 Plus in the same memory configuration is not $899, but $1285.
・iPhone 16 Pro at 256GB could rise from $1099 dollars to more than $1570.
・And the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max model with 1TB of memory is almost $2300 instead of $1599.

🇺🇸 No panic – these prices will be real if Apple really raises prices exactly by 43% to fully compensate for the amount of duty. In that case, we can forget about the cheapest iPhones from the US. There are still options to avoid these sharp increases, but there's not much time left.

😶 Apple has not commented on the situation so far.

📦 Apple has loaded cargo airplanes with iPhones in advance

📰 The Times of India reports that 5 airplanes full of iPhones were shipped in late March to the U.S. from India, where the company's factories are located. A few more may have traveled with other devices, including several shipments from China and Vietnam.

🌐 The company was ready to stock the devices ahead of the increased duties imposed by US President. They affect all of Apple's facilities:

🇮🇳 India, where Apple is increasingly building iPhones and AirPods, will have a 26% tariff.
🇻🇳 Vietnam, where the company now makes some AirPods, iPads, Apple Watches and Macs, will be hit with a 46% levy.
🇲🇾 Malaysia, where Apple is increasingly producing Macs, will have a 24% tariff.
🇹🇭 Thailand, where the company also makes some Macs, will get a 37% levy.
🇮🇪 Ireland, within the European Union, gets a 20% tariff. Apple produces some iMacs there.
🇮🇩 Indonesia, which will soon begin making AirTags and mesh for the AirPods Max headphones, gets a 32% tariff.
🇨🇳The latest tariffs will be 34% for China, bringing its total level to 54%. But the overall picture suggests Apple isn’t going to get as much benefit as hoped from diversifying away from that country. Apple will still be taking a hit on iPhones made in India, AirPods made in Vietnam and Macs made elsewhere in Asia.
