Oh my gosh! This is all so wonderful but I have no idea where to start!! I have a MacBook Air 2015. Can I use that to do this. And can someone just tell me where to start? I know there are instructions step by step but I just need to start at the beginning. How do I find that place?

I have three older Toshiba machines that run Linux Mint splendidly. Two were pawn shop finds for under $200 each. The third is a "netbook" I bought new that's over 10 years old (it came with Windoze 7 Starter). I set up one laptop for dual boot with Windoze 10. It's remarkable how the Microshaft OS drags it down compared to Mint. I suggest you check your local pawn shops and mom and pop computer businesses for an inexpensive machine to experiment with and learn on.

Mint for Windows folks, Elementary for MAC users. Easier for them to move around and get familiar with the OS

How do you protect yourself from viruses or harmful programs on this setup?

Get out of Microsoft. I am an O365 admin and I can tell you it sucks.
I have been using Pdrive and Sugarsync on my phone and mac but havent tried them on linux yet.

In addition, make sure that your Linux firewall is setup to close the ports you arn't using - which is a separate topic and involves a bit more.

Hammer! LOL. That is a joke but maybe not a joke. I suspect the iPhone itself is as bad as the Pegasus software. I see no hope for iPhone.

Friends, I agree with Will. I know a lot of us at one point loved our iPhones. But many Americans are starting to wake up and realize they don't want to be locked in. It is what it is.

Just revived 2 celeron laptops with Linux. I was just going to donate them. Thanks for this channel. Now on to the next step which is getting rid of my Gmail. Question, I have my photography business and have an email with that. Is it better to just keep using that instead of going to proton mail? I was looking at getting more email control for the family.

Friends, as you've quickly learned, one of the best things about the FOSS and Linux ecosystem is that it works great on used, refurbished, or old computers you might be able to find even in your own garage. That's because it's simply built better than Windows, and it is much more efficient. Our Technology chat room is full of stories where people are reviving old laptops with Linux or finding them at a thift store for a few hundred dollars, installing Linux and watching it work like a charm.

You're hearing about computer chip shortages on the news and prices are already rising. If something happens with China and Taiwan, chip prices will skyrocket. Now is the time to find yourself a good, affordable computer (or two), and learn to use Linux. There's many reasons beyond the scope of these short posts I'm telling you this, friends.
