rms’s “Four Freedoms” of software (1990):

0. The freedom to run the program, for any purpose.

1. The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish.

2. The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor.

3. The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions, giving the community a chance to benefit from your changes.

“With these freedoms, the users (both individually and collectively) control the program and what it does for them. When users don't control the program, we call it a … “proprietary” program. The program controls the users, and the developer controls the program; this makes the program an instrument of unjust power.”

“A.I.” is in a hype phase in the MSM. Consider 2023 the year “A.I.” started to get headlines everywhere.

The emergence of the technology is interesting but it has a long way to go. It will be a big topic of debate in society from here on.

Used to ask the question, “are people waking up?” which misses the point, because these days, people are consistently waking up to the truth about gov’t corruption, pharma and banking cartels, etc., in other words, yes, over time, there’s a steady drumbeat of people who are waking up.

So the better question is, do you think people are waking up faster than say, a year ago. I know it’s easy to say no, no, no one is because all of us are so frustrated and we wish it would be faster.

Yet with sports players, newscasters collapsing on live TV, people losing their relatives to the jab (one of the hardest things to watch, its so sad), record inflation hitting everyone, the start of congressional inquiries, it seems like there is some momentum that wasn’t there a year, two years ago. What do you think? 🤔

Before the Internet and search engines, we had public libraries and card catalogs.

Anyone remember looking stuff up at the library? As kids we used to go to the library to do our homework there. And this writer used to go to the library to check out computer books 😂

The DEC-VT100 terminal, first sold in 1978, became the gold standard for “dumb terminals” — input/output devices with little of their own processing power, used to control remote mainframe and minicomputers.

Many “terminal” applications, even today, when they are using a legacy compatibility mode, will “emulate” a VT-100 with control character sequences. These control character sequences have been the same in the tech industry for more than 40 years, now! 😊

Truly one of the good guys in the history of computing. Dennis Ritchie was the co-creator of the C programming language, roughly the equivalent of spoken business English, in terms of its importance to the computing world.

Dennis was the visionary co-creator of the UNIX Operating System. His vision and talent were unique in the history of technology where he generally always makes “top 10 influential” lists. One of the best engineer/scientists in modern American history.

While he was a master at his trade, he spent most of his life inventing and contributing his knowledge to humanity and did not create much wealth for himself. So the news of his death was not reported anywhere near as much as that of a programmer of mediocre skill, Apple founder Steve Jobs, who passed away a week prior.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we praise Your Holy Name. We Thank You for the changes Your Holy Spirit is making in each of Your children's lives as You mold and make us into the people that You would have us to be.

Give us we pray, ears to better hear Your still small voice and a heart that is willing to walk in the path that You would choose for us to follow. May we be willing to go where You lead, do what You would have us do and give up that which You choose for us to give up, even if we don't understand. May we learn to say, "Thy will be done," and give us the courage to accept Your will for our lives.

O Lord, may we not quench the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives by neglect or by wounding. Instead, help us every day to better know His intimate fellowship.

We ask this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

After 30 years, the result is plain for all to see: Ordinary people, working together in good faith and almost zero budget, built the world’s most powerful computer Operating System, that out-performs the comparable product—your computer’s most important software—built by Bill Gates and Microsoft with their unlimited resources, over the same period of time.

No one would have predicted this, at the beginning. It’s an incredible result, a modern day David vs. Goliath story that is being revealed for the world to see, right now, as Windows continues to lose market share.

What if our other important technologies were built the same way? Transparent, Open Source, citizen backed projects, free for inspection at any time, with verifiable code signatures.

Conversation between myself (Sean Tario) and @GrapheneGoat (Aaron Amick) has just been posted. Cover how Aaron got interested in the world of FOSS and talk a lot about GrapheneOS, how our government and BigTech actively spy on us and what we can do about it. Thought you folks would appreciate listening in. https://odysee.com/@mark37.com:2/cowboyandsuit7:3

How is it possible that so many mobile apps, both Android and iPhone, seem to be spying on us, even listening to everything we do?

Is every Mobile app developer consciously choosing to help Google spy on Americans, or is it happening without them really being aware of it?

In this video, learn how Google’s web of spying is rapidly spreading to so many mobile apps, as Jeffrey Peterson reveals the truth about Google’s Firebase framework for mobile software development. (This video contains an audio track!)

Just wanted to take a minute to write a sincere note that I’m super proud of everyone here who has been learning computer stuff from the channel.

Thousands of independent minded people … learning Free & Open Source software, Linux, other Unix-like O.S.’s, some of you, even Python … not just anyone has the courage and determination to quickly pivot and learn all of that…and indeed, it is what needs to be learned, to break free and have complete control over our tech… many of you are ahead of what’s next, technology wise, at this point. We can continue that trend and build momentum from it.

SUPER PROUD OF EVERYONE!!! ☺️ It is real progress here that can be seen. And much more good stuff on the way!!
