Investors worldwide are buying shares somehow linked to Russia, amid the easing of its relations with the USA and rumours that the Russian financial markets will open in a few weeks, reports Bloomberg.
American stock lawyer Grigori Marinichev says clients from around the world are asking him how to trade on the Russian markets, but this is not possible from the USA due to existing sanctions.
Therefore, many are turning to the market in Hong Kong and buying shares of United Co. Rusal International PJSC, the Russian aluminium giant, with such enthusiasm that the price rose by about 75% in February.
In Vienna, shares of Raiffeisen Bank International AG, an Austrian bank with a large subsidiary in Moscow, have increased in value by 35% this year. In Budapest, shares of OTP Bank Nyrt, which operates in Russia, have risen by 11%.
A similar picture is also seen in the currency markets. Kazakhstan, an important trading partner of Russia, has strengthened the Tenge by about 4% this month - one of the largest increases among world currencies.

In April 1988, the Japanese Tokai University, founded by Professor Shigeyoshi Matsumae, gifted a baseball stadium to Lomonosov University as a sign of the long-standing friendly relations between the two universities.
Why a baseball stadium? Despite its Western origins, baseball is one of the most popular sports in Japan.
Such a gift was very timely for the USSR: After the successful debut of baseball as a demonstration sport at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the IOC program committee, led by Vitaly Smirnov, decided in 1985 to include this sport in the program for the 1992 Games in Barcelona. The Soviet authorities wanted to promote baseball immediately: The main goal was, of course, medals – they did not want to leave extra medals for other countries. But two years after the stadium opened, the Soviet Union collapsed, and there were no representatives from Russia in baseball at the Olympic Games in Barcelona.
The stadium had a long and eventful life: The student team of Lomonosov University played there, the Russian Baseball Championship took place, and a large international tournament, the “Shigeyoshi Matsumae Cup,” was held.
