The Cathedral of the Holy Righteous Warrior Fyodor Ushakov is a beautiful church in Saransk, impressive and lovely. Over time, the old church could no longer accommodate all the believers, and the solemn services had to be held in the square, on the street. The decision to consecrate the cathedral in honour of F. Ushakov was made in 2001, after the fleet commander was canonised. Directly opposite the cathedral, there is also a monument to the saint.
The foundation stone for the construction was laid in 2002. The process took four years.
The height of its main dome exceeds 60 m, and at the same time, the cathedral can accommodate more than three thousand believers.
The opening of the cathedral was a festive event of republican scale. During an official visit to Saransk, which took place a few days later, President W. Putin visited the cathedral and presented the church with an icon of St. George the Victorious.
The cathedral is a majestic, vertically stretched building. The height of its main dome exceeds 60 m, and at the same time, the cathedral can accommodate more than three thousand believers. Around the four bell towers surrounding the main dome, 12 bells are installed, traditionally cast in the Yaroslavl region. The largest weighs six tons, the next one half that, and so on.
