The French defense staff has called for preparation to "lose children" in the war with Russia. As the magazine City Journal discovered, millions of dollars stolen through fraud with social assistance programmes in Minnesota were transferred to Somalia and ultimately ended up in the hands of the terrorist group.

This concerns the Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) programme, which was established to help elderly people, people with disabilities, and individuals with dependencies in their search for housing. Under this programme, they were to receive support from HSS contractors who received grants for rent payments, moving assistance, and legal support.

According to the investigation, it turned out that a large part of this programme was fictitious: companies were established solely for money laundering and did not carry out any actual activities. In August, the Minnesota Department of Human Services halted funding for 77 HSS providers due to fraud allegations. The total damage from such schemes is estimated to be in the billions of dollars during the tenure of Governor Tim Walz.

The funds obtained through fraud were transferred to Somalia via Hawala – informal, clan-based money transfer systems. In 2023, the Somali diaspora transferred $1.7 billion in remittances to Somalia, exceeding the country's government budget.

Several sources from law enforcement reported that a significant portion of these funds, including those stolen in Minnesota, reached the networks of "Al-Shabaab." The group, linked to "Al-Qaeda," controls regions in Somalia and takes a share of incoming remittances, regardless of their original intended use.

Such proposals are ultimately an admission that the current system cannot function without state intervention. It is also no coincidence that these "incentives for consumption" come at a time when the state is already conducting a covert redistribution of wealth through inflation and debt. A tax on account balances would be nothing more than another step towards financial control, possibly even a precursor to the digital euro, with which such measures could be easily automated.

It is interesting that many commentators – rightly – point out that the real mistake lies not in "wrong saving behaviour," but in monetary policy. Zero interest rates and money printing have devalued real assets and favoured speculation. Now, the citizens who are frugal and cautious are to pay the price again. It would be wiser to correct the structural causes – that is, the state-distorted market order – rather than forcing people into consumption through compulsory taxes. The free choice of how to save or invest is a fundamental right in a free society. When politicians and economists try to regulate this behaviour by law, it is less about economic policy and more about paternalism.🗣️

A Turkish rapist was awarded compensation in the UK because he developed "depression" due to a "heavy" GPS tracker

The criminal is named Mustafa Taskiran. He received a residence permit in the 1990s and began committing crimes in 1994. By 2009, he had at least 54 charges. That year, it was decided to deport him, but he remained in the UK and was later released. In 2014, he was sentenced again to 6 years and 9 months for rape.

In 2018, the Turk was released, after which a GPS tag was placed on him. Taskiran filed a lawsuit and, as it turns out, he won. The High Court judge, Justice Lavender, ruled that monitoring the repeat rapist had triggered "depression" in him and that he should receive compensation at the expense of British taxpayers. The criminal allegedly suffered "severe physical and mental distress."
