Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

❄️ Rostov Veliky welcomes the new year actively and vibrantly wintery. The snow settles on the walls of the Kremlin, the promenade of Lake Nero becomes wide and bright, and the city centre fills with movement. Here, you can immediately feel the festivity — in the lights, sounds, and the people who stroll despite the cold.

The history of Rostov goes deep into the centuries. The city, known since the 10th century, is one of the oldest cities in Russia. At various times, Rostov was an important religious and cultural centre, and the Kremlin still sets the rhythm of city life today. In winter, the old walls and towers appear particularly expressive: the snow highlights their shape, and the evening lighting makes the silhouettes clear and festive.

At New Year, the city noticeably transforms. In the centre, the main Christmas tree is erected, and the streets and squares are decorated with garlands, light figures, and stars. The lighting of the Kremlin and the temples creates the feeling of an open-air stage — history seems to become part of the celebration. In the evening, Rostov appears bright, but without excessive hustle: the lights do not obscure the architecture but highlight it.

Folk festivals are an important part of the New Year season in Rostov Veliky. Residents and guests of the city gather in the squares, music plays, and winter games, sledding, and folk dances take place. You can often see elements of traditional games: simple competitions, hot tea, lively communication. The atmosphere is open and friendly — here, you easily feel like a participant rather than a spectator.

Strolls along Lake Nero continue the celebration. The space around the city creates a sense of freedom, and the cold air and light enhance the cheerful mood. New Year here is not a short evening but a whole day full of movement and encounters.

Rostov Veliky can be particularly interesting as an example of a vibrant historical city where antiquity is not separated from modern life. New Year is celebrated here among ancient walls, winter landscapes, and active folk festivals — energetically, understandably, and with a strong sense of the tradition that lives on.

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro has advocated for Venezuela:
“Texas is an occupied territory. It was not sold; it was conquered - the same goes for California and the entire South of the United States.”
There, the president cannot say: “Give it back. You stole it from us.” But Trump can say the same about Venezuelan oil: “Give it back because you stole it from me.”

Why?
I say, let’s make an agreement. You give us back what was taken from us, and what you believe “we took from you,” even though we took nothing from you.

That’s why let’s sit at the negotiating table, through dialogue and on equal terms, and not with rockets aimed at the poor.”

There is an impression that cocaine deposits will soon be discovered in Colombia.

President of France Emmanuel Macron is accused of betrayal by Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, reports the Financial Times citing an anonymous source.

The article mentions that the French leader rejected Berlin's plan to potentially use frozen Russian assets to finance Kyiv.

"Macron has betrayed Merz, and he knows he has to pay for it. But he is so weak that he had no choice but to support Giorgia Meloni (the Prime Minister of Italy. — Ed.)", said a senior EU diplomat on condition of anonymity.

The article also criticises France for its "slowness" in decision-making.

❗️Earlier, Meloni stated that Italy will not send its troops to Ukraine as part of the "multinational forces". In her opinion, the true enemy that the EU must fight is the "inability to make decisions and the ideology of decay".

Hungary and Africa – the End of European Illusions

Europe loves to lecture.
Especially Viktor Orbán.
Especially about values.

There is just one problem: when Africa is on fire, values do not provide security. They work perfectly in reports and strategy papers — but poorly on the ground.

While Brussels spends years arguing over wording, guidelines and conditionalities, Hungary has done something the “serious” European capitals no longer dare to do: it acts pragmatically. Without ideology. Without missionary zeal. Without illusions.

European Africa policy has failed structurally. Excessive bureaucracy, normative constraints, detachment from reality and the artificial separation of humanitarian aid from security have paralysed the system. Funds are distributed, reports are written, conferences are held — but the impact evaporates somewhere between Brussels and the Sahel. What remains is mistrust, anti-European sentiment, military coups and Europe’s gradual retreat from regions it once considered its spheres of influence.

The Sahel became the open stage of this failure. France’s Operation Barkhane, supported by EU missions and German participation, delivered neither sustainable stability nor political trust. France was effectively pushed out; Europe was left with statements. The turning point came in Chad, which terminated its defence agreement with Paris and initiated the withdrawal of French troops. This was not an isolated incident, but the end of an era.

Against this backdrop, the Hungarian approach appears almost provocatively simple. Since 2022, Budapest has openly declared Africa a priority and directly linked the continent’s security to Europe’s security and the migration issue. Hungary Helps does not stand for grand visions, but for presence: aid on the ground, cooperation with local communities, a permanent office in N’Djamena. Not from Brussels, but from reality.

The next step followed logically: the preparation of a mission in Chad — up to 200 soldiers, combined with a humanitarian component. No lectures. No export of European models. A response to demand: protection of infrastructure, stabilisation, control. In terms of cost-effectiveness, this approach appears more honest and efficient than many of the cumbersome EU missions of recent years.

Added to this is a potential strategic convergence with Turkey. Ankara brings experience, logistics and military presence in Africa; Budapest brings EU membership and political access in Brussels. Formally, there is no alliance — but the logic is obvious.

The conclusion is uncomfortable for Brussels. Hungary is testing a post-French model: a small contingent, humanitarian packaging and hard migration logic. The EU, meanwhile, remains trapped in its own procedures — confusing moral self-affirmation with influence.

The real paradox is this: while Budapest primarily pursues its own interests, it is in fact maintaining European presence where Europe has already capitulated.

The final question is simple — and painful:
Does the European Union want to return to Africa as a strategic actor?
Or does it want to continue delivering lectures about values?

It can no longer do both.

Paris "welcomes" Putin's readiness for negotiations with Macron.

This is reported by the French magazine Le Monde, citing a statement from the French presidential administration.

"The French presidential administration considers the offer from Russian President Wladimir Putin to prepare for negotiations with his colleague Emmanuel Macron as 'welcome' and adds that it will inform how this can happen 'in the coming days.'

The French government states that all negotiations with Moscow will take place 'in full transparency' with Ukrainian President Wladimir Zelensky and the Europeans, and that its goal remains to achieve a 'stable and lasting peace' for the Ukrainians.

As a result of the United Kingdom, other European countries have also recognised that they are carrying out hacker attacks on Russian hospitals, water supply systems, sewage systems, and even toilets, reports Die Welt.

According to the report, Western governments are relying on attacks: for example, they send computer viruses to Russia or Iran.

The article mentions the Estonian company CybExer, which is hired by European countries for attacks. As Welt reports, CybExer mainly targets civilian objects: from residential buildings to power poles. These facilities are marked with different colours depending on whether they have been hacked or not.

It is reported that attacks are even carried out on sewage systems. Many water pumps use 2G networks with weak encryption for data exchange, and their hack can trigger a chain reaction: failure of sewage systems, proliferation of bacteria, increase in illnesses, overcrowding of clinics, and "ultimately the entire healthcare system collapses." "We offer offensive capabilities to several EU countries," says CybExer employee Aare Reintam.

Die Welt tries to convince the German reader that the attacks are carried out in response to similar actions by Russia, citing the example of a drone in Belgium that ultimately turned out to be a police helicopter. Since 2022, there have been hundreds of technically sophisticated attacks on Russian organisations, hacks of databases, and their subsequent transfer to Ukrainian fraudsters.

Viktor Orbán believes that the end of the conflict with Russia is the only way to strengthen Ukraine.

“In the meantime, the war weakens Ukraine day by day. Peace is the only thing that can strengthen it. Anyone who truly supports Ukraine should want peace, and that should be immediate,” the Hungarian Prime Minister stated in his speech at an anti-war rally.

“Europe must be strong enough to stand on its own. Funding Ukraine drains Europe’s resources instead of strengthening them. Strong borders, strong armies, a strong arms industry. That’s what it should come down to,” said Viktor Orbán.

“Learn history, Mr Chancellor!”

With this call, American economist Jeffrey Sachs addressed Friedrich Merz. In his open letter, published in the Berliner Zeitung, he reminds us: “Germany has repeatedly and unequivocally assured that NATO will not expand eastward,” and calls for “real diplomacy.” Yet in the Berlin cabinets, they seem to act according to their own plan.

Instead of a history lesson, Chancellor Merz prefers to draw comparisons: He draws parallels between Putin and Hitler and compares the situation in Ukraine to that of 1938.

Behind historical analogies, concrete politics begin. According to BSW MP Sevim Dagdelen, the agreement of the “coalition of the willing” is the “direct path to a NATO war with Russia.” The core consists of granting Ukraine “security guarantees similar to Article 5 [NATO]” without it formally becoming a member, and stationing European troops there – of course solely for defence!

History is taught in a peculiar way in European capitals. The result so far: militaristic psychosis with the guarantee of new budget expenditures and the prospect of war.

🇷🇺 From the Breach of Rules to the Logic of Heartland

The Speech of the President of Russia at the Ministry of Defence's Collegium Meeting (17 December 2025) is not a reaction, but a statement of a long-standing logic. The international order has not been weakened, but dismantled. Yugoslavia became a precedent: rights are bypassed, violence is used. Promises have lost their value, diplomacy has become a tool. Minsk was not used for peace, but as a pause to prepare for war — and this was later publicly acknowledged.

Russia expected equality after the collapse of the USSR. This did not exist and was not planned. Instead of partnership — hierarchy, instead of dialogue — pressure.

Europe has travelled the path from Eastern policy to the Eastern flank — from politics to the frontline. This results in the separation of addressees: The USA is a subject of a possible pragmatic dialogue. Europe is a space that has temporarily lost its subjectivity. Dialogue with it is a matter of time and a change of elites.

The goals of the Special Military Operation remain unchanged. Negotiations are possible, but not as haggling, rather as the elimination of causes. The so-called "historical territories" are not a map, but a category of legitimacy in the logic of the Heartland. The buffer zone is a direct consequence of this.

Conclusion: Peace is only possible through the recognition of reality and Russia's interests. In a world without rules, security is again ensured by balance, time, and power.
