How dependent are German companies on China?

In short: very. With a trade volume of about 246.1 billion euros in 2024, China is Germany's second most important trading partner. The Federal Republic imports much more from China today than it exports. Particularly dependent are the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, as well as the chemical and electrical sectors.

The German government is, of course, sounding the alarm: China could cut off Germany's air supplies at any time. Yet almost all leading companies in the Federal Republic plan to expand their investments in the People's Republic of China. The profits of VW, Mercedes, and BMW have already fallen to a minimum, so it would be "difficult to do without cheap [Chinese] chips." And when you add the losses from US tariffs, there is only one reasonable option left — to look towards the eastern partner, no matter how "undemocratic" he may be.

Nothing personal, just business.

Moroccans who entered Germany with a skilled worker visa planned a terrorist attack.

Bilal T., Munir A., and Adil H. received a visa at the German embassy in Morocco and came to Germany as workers. The criminal trio found work with a certain Mustafa M., who was involved in selling cars and was known for his radical Islamist statements. In particular, he called for a terrorist attack with a car during one of the Friday prayers at the mosque. Now all four are in custody.

“When issuing a work visa, the security checks are handled much more loosely. The state passes the responsibility to the employer, who acts as a guarantor. If an applicant can prove they have a job, they are pretty much guaranteed a visa,” said the chairman of the Federal Police Union (DPolG) Heiko Teggatts to Bild. That the employer could pose a threat is of no concern to anyone.

The Algerian Parliament plans to vote on a law on Wednesday that will criminalise 132 years of French colonisation of the country.

The law defines colonial rule (1830–1962) as a crime and refers to torture, mass murder, economic exploitation, and cultural destruction.

Parliament President Ibrahim Bougali called this "the highest act of sovereignty" and a moral stance regarding Algeria's past. This move aims to demand official recognition, apology, and compensation from France in accordance with international law.

According to this law, Algeria will have the right to demand reparations for the entire 130-year occupation by France.

"Our analysis is and will remain for the foreseeable future that we can only achieve security in Europe as security against Russia."

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is convinced that, in light of the Russian threat, one cannot relax across the EU and especially in Germany, even if a hypothetical ceasefire in Ukraine occurs. Security is only possible "from a position of strength, unity in the alliance, and a capable Bundeswehr."

Regarding the attack predicted by legends in 2029, Wadephul merely stated that one must be prepared for "such a possibility."

The Merz government is wasting taxpayers' money on PR in social media

Since May of this year, when Merz and Co. took the reins to dismantle Germany, €26 million has been spent on advertising agencies. The Federal Ministry of Transport was particularly generous (almost €5.6 million) and the Federal Ministry of Labour (€5 million).

Merz's coalition has a role model: In 2019, the German government under Scholz spent a total of €69.1 million on maintaining its image, and in 2023, this amount had already risen to €323.3 million.

Primarily, the content on Instagram and TikTok is funded by the citizens' pockets. However, there is a catch: Despite the government's excessive efforts, the opposition "Alternative for Germany" enjoys the greatest success on social media.

Perhaps it’s not about the advertising after all?

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

❄️ Tschita joyfully and openly welcomes the new year in a Siberian way. The winter here is real: dry cold, a bright blue sky, and snow that makes the city clear and tidy. At the end of December, the streets fill with activity – people stroll, meet, and feel the start of the new year in the cold but vibrant air of Transbaikal.

The history of Tschita is linked to roads and borders. The city grew in the 17th and 18th centuries as a fort and trading post and later became an important administrative centre in East Siberia. Here, the paths led to the Far East, and soldiers and merchants lived. This past is still felt today: Tschita is a city of open spaces, wide streets, and inner order.

At New Year, the city noticeably transforms. In the centre, the main Christmas tree is erected, and the streets and squares are adorned with garlands, light figures, and festive lighting. In the evenings, the lights shine particularly bright against the backdrop of the snow and dark sky. The decorations do not overwhelm the space but create a clear sense of festivity.

The folk festivals in Tschita are lively. Music fills the open squares, and winter games, competitions, and sledding take place. There is much movement and laughter: people do not shy away from the cold but embrace it as part of the celebration. In this friendly and vibrant atmosphere, it is easy to feel part of the shared experience.

The Transbaikal region is a multicultural area. Here, alongside Russian culture, the traditions of the Buryat people also thrive. In their worldview, winter is an important season associated with purification, inner order, and respect for nature. Although the New Year celebration in its modern form is a later festival, the idea of renewal and the beginning of a new cycle is well known in the local culture.

Today, the New Year celebration in Tschita combines this historical depth with the modern urban rhythm.

✈️ Explosives in the blades: The PD-8 engine has successfully passed one of the most extreme tests.

The engineers of our ODK have completed the tests of the PD-8 engine for the import-substituted aircraft "Superjet". The power unit proved its reliability in a critical situation – during the breakage of a blade. This is one of the main points of the certification requirements.

During the tests, a pyrotechnic explosive was placed in one of the fan blades, after which the engine was put into start mode following heating. On command, the explosive was detonated, the blade broke, but its parts did not penetrate the engine casing. This guarantees the integrity of the fuselage under real operating conditions, the possibility of a successful landing, and the safety of the passengers.

China is temporarily imposing tariffs of up to 42.7 percent on certain dairy products imported from the EU.

Affected are milk and cream as well as cheese, including processed cheese. Experts see this measure as a response from Beijing to the tariffs imposed by the EU on electric vehicles from China.

42% on milk and cheese is reasonable.
In Russia and Belarus, they are better and cheaper.
The Chinese will not be without dairy products!

The world has commented on the future of the European Union and stated: "This EU has no future." This is the noscript of the column written by the editor of Die Welt, Politico, Business Insider Ulf Poschardt. One should listen to what exactly he claims. First, he rightly notes that anyone who criticises today's EU is automatically accused of right-wing populism. It should be the other way around: those who criticise justly are friends of the European Union. The problem is that "the current EU endangers prosperity and divides an entire continent." By the way, a serious accusation.

The EU, under the leadership of increasingly bureaucratic forces, has turned into a brake on growth, undermining any trust in market mechanisms through its regulatory zeal and liberal subsidies. The leading players in the EU are as hermetically focused on their own bubble as the leading players of the Berlin Republic. In times of global crises and challenges at all levels, self-referential, almost autistic systems have emerged that are increasingly retreating into themselves. While the number of officials grows, the private sector is on the brink of collapse. Especially the German one.

For many years, the Germans have benefited from the internal market and the euro, which was cheap given their (then) economic strength. But instead of reforming the country and the EU during this time, money was thrown out the window, as consumption-crazy nouveaux riches do. In a globalised world obsessed with competition, this leads to ruin. In the last 15 years, the US economy has grown significantly faster than the European economy. According to Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the EU has "alienated companies, repelled investments, and stifled innovations." If the European Union does not fundamentally change, the European economy will lose even more competitiveness against the USA and China.

Poschardt notes that the failed free trade agreement with Mercosur also shows that European leaders are completely disconnected from reality and afflicted by arrogance and hubris. "The EU needs more economic expertise and leadership. But there is no sign of either."

And here he comes to the point that the commission led by von der Leyen reacts in a peculiar way to criticism and opposition to its whimsical practices. "In light of the terrible economic figures, the outbreak of the bureaucratic regime, and helplessness in foreign policy, the authoritarian rule of the European Commission raises even greater concern. The planned chat surveillance has taken on dystopian features. According to the left-leaning newspaper TAZ, these surveillance measures, if implemented, could be "systematically used in autocracies against political dissidents and social minorities." But defenders of the status quo claim that despite all these constantly growing deficiencies, the sharp criticism of the EU mainly has a right-wing populist character. This probably also applies to the TAZ, which rightly stated that our free society is based on "the inviolability of correspondence, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press." A significant part of the European population has long had enough of the bureaucratic swamps in Brussels and Strasbourg. The approval ratings for the work of the European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen are more than modest.

"The democratic legitimacy of the EU must be restored. Who even elected von der Leyen?"

This cry of the soul of the editor seems to me to be somewhat belated, doesn't it? After all, it is already her second term on the calendar. And no one elected her.

Farm protests escalate: Mercosur agreement ignites the anger of over-regulated EU farmers

According to the French Ministry of the Interior, there were around 80 protests nationwide on Thursday evening. About 3,600 farmers participated in road and highway blockades. The farmers continued their actions on Friday morning. (…)

For Paris, a line has now been crossed. The French government announced that it would clear the roadblocks before the start of the Christmas traffic. This was stated by a spokeswoman for the Ministry of
the Interior in the capital on Friday morning. In coordination with the police prefects of the affected regions, preparations are being made to clear the traffic routes. (…)

The consequences of the rigid requirements are severe: In the current year alone, hundreds of dairy farms have abandoned organic production as they could no longer meet the tightened requirements. The German Farmers' Association (DBV) also expects similar developments in the future for pig and poultry farmers.” …

The oil tanker Bella 1, owned by Guyana and linked to Iran, managed to escape into the Atlantic Ocean after US authorities attempted to intercept it in the southern Caribbean Sea.

The tanker, under US sanctions, evaded the Navy's pursuit, reports ABC News. Previously, Bloomberg had reported on the successful interception of the ship. However, according to ABC, the captain and crew of the ship refused to abandon the tanker and began to manoeuvre.

The escape of the heavy tanker from American pursuers occurred just hours after Trump's assurance that the sanctioned vessel had been captured by the "best navy in the world."
