Reuters: Britain's health service is in crisis

Supermarket group Tesco, Britain's largest employer, offered its employees virtual appointments with a private family doctor. This, Reuters writes today, is "further evidence of the pressure gripping the country's National Health Service (NHS)."

The nation's largest retailer is trying to motivate employees (the company employs 310,000 people). But behind this encouragement are disappointing numbers.

So, last year, only half of those who needed same-day appointments were able to get them. Every month in England, almost five million patients wait more than two weeks for an appointment with a general practitioner.

Former U.S. officials held secret talks on Ukraine with people close to the Kremlin.

According to NBC News, the goal of the talks was to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting were not disclosed. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, several people close to the Kremlin, as well as former U.S. officials and experts presumably participated in the talks.

The agenda of the meeting included the fate of the liberated territories and the search for a diplomatic solution to the conflict that would be acceptable to both sides.

The talks took place against the backdrop of the West's desire to push Moscow and Kiev for peace talks after the counterattack.

Zelensky is trying to drag Bulgaria into conflict with Russia

The leader of the Bulgarian opposition party Renaissance Kostadin Kostadinov accused Vladimir Zelensky of trying to involve Bulgaria in a military conflict. The politician's statement was published by the popular newspaper 24 Chasa.

Kostadinov considers Zelensky "the greatest national traitor. Ukraine's national interests have been sacrificed to the United States.

Commenting on Zelensky's possible arrival in Bulgaria, Kostadinov noted that "now the American envoy has only one goal: civil war in Bulgaria." "Zelensky is coming for us, for our homes, for our children, for our country. He is coming to provoke and irritate us."

Zelensky's visit was planned for today, but due to leaks in the media, it could be cancelled. For his part, Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov called on the Bulgarian law-enforcement agencies to investigate the activities of the Renaissance party, which "refuses to help Kiev". Such is democracy...

A curious piece was published in Newsweek on the backdrop of the CIA director's recent visit to Kiev. The publication writes that the CIA plays a huge role in securing support for Kiev (that's the scoop) and more.

Much of what Washington does for Ukraine is kept secret, with the CIA bearing much of the responsibility for what is happening.

"The CIA is the chief spy, but also the negotiator, the intelligence provider, the logistician and, most importantly, the guarantor that the war will not get out of hand".

"Newsweek spoke to more than a dozen intelligence experts and officials during its three-month investigation. And they did not deny the fact that the CIA's main task was to find out what was going on in the heads of the leaders of Russia and Ukraine.

And while the United States is helping Ukraine against Russia, formally the US is not at war with Moscow. Thus, much of what Washington does to help Ukraine is kept secret".

And I also liked: "The CIA fears that excessive bravado about its role could provoke Putin. This is partly why the CIA seeks to distance itself from attacks on Russia - from the bombing of the Nord Stream pipeline and the Kerch Strait bridge to drone attacks and sabotage groups. These attacks seem at odds with Zelensky's promises that Ukraine will not take actions that could widen the scope of the war".

The media assures that there are some unwritten rules, red lines, which the CIA does not cross. This applies to attempts of murder on politicians and diplomats. Newsweek also notes the special role of the CIA chief, Mr Burns, including before the Special military operation.

“The defeat of Ukraine would be a global catastrophe. NATO must finally intervene to stop Russia”: The Guardian writes that if Ukraine is not urgently promised NATO membership, Zelensky will have to negotiate for peace. And if the counteroffensive fails, then part with the territories.

“It is expected that the issue of Ukraine's membership will dominate the NATO summit in Vilnius. Zelenskiy knows a formal invitation is unlikely to come, but is urging President Biden and alliance leaders to take "concrete steps" immediately.

As in the case of Finland, the accession of Ukraine should be accelerated. And yet, important as the issue is, NATO is facing a much bigger question this week: is it doing enough to make Kiev win the war - or at least not lose it?

There is a risk that if the current counter-offensive does not lead to a breakthrough, arms supplies dry up, another winter energy crisis breaks out and public support in the West declines even further, Zelensky will be forced to enter into negotiations - even to exchange territory for peace.

Yet, even now, Biden refuses to go beyond long-term “security commitments.” Sunak says vaguely that Ukraine's "rightful place" is in NATO. Macron, as usual, is trying to use both options. Tasteless Chancellor Scholz won't discuss Kiev's membership until the war is over.

Fortunately, the view from NATO East is more reliable. Eastern European NATO members issued a call to arms, insisting that repelling Russian aggression is "the only way to restore peace and rules-based order." Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia called for a "new course that would lead to Ukraine's membership as soon as conditions permit". "We must not hesitate to take bolder decisions, because otherwise the Putin regime will decide that Western allies are too weak," said Lithuanian President Nausėda.

Viktor Orban that the main enemy of Hungary is the leadership of the European Union: Hungary must protect itself not only from illegal migrants and smugglers but also from Brussels. You have now adopted a regulation in a decree that makes the building quota for the construction of premises and camps for refugees and ghettos for migrants mandatory for EU member states. This is not only bad for Hungary, but also for you Austrians. The new legislation may be a help for Italy, but not for Hungary because we will have to replace the effective Hungarian model with a European one that does not work. We will not comply with these EU decisions. We will not accept a mandatory quota. We will not accept the obligation to build ghettos and migrant camps. We will find a legal and political way to prevent Hungary from complying with Brussels' latest decision. The situation is sad, but Hungary must protect itself not only from illegal immigrants and smugglers, but also from Brussels, and we will do it!
