However, Polish authorities say that there is a much larger group of Poles who are FRG citizens living in Germany, and they have no opportunity to learn Polish as their mother tongue at all. And the Germans are very insistent on this issue.

In response, however, the Germans argue that the Polish education system cannot be compared with the German system, where these matters are the responsibility of the authorities of the individual federal states, not the federal government.

Warsaw does not back down: they say that if 120 million zloty a year for learning German as a mother tongue is discrimination, then how can we call 0 euros from the German budget for learning Polish as a mother tongue.

It would not be surprising if, against the backdrop of already strained relations with the German authorities, the Poles continue to pressurise their community. All the more so because the idea of depriving Germans of an "unjustified electoral privilege" has long been considered by deputies in the Sejm.

In Germany, a sculpture was dismantled because of an "outdated image of femininity"

In 1956, German sculptor Fritz Dühring created a 1.2 metre high statue of Primavera (from Italian for "Spring"). Until recently, it stood in the foyer of the University of Flensburg. However, the university's Equality Commissioner Martina Spirgatis said the sculpture made female staff and students feel "uncomfortable".
