Although Germany is considered one of the leaders of the green transition and has set high targets for decarbonising industry, the forests that clean the air of carbon are suffering greatly from its actions.
By turning away from Russian energy sources, Berlin has started to use much more wood as fuel than before.
German industry and people are burning record amounts of wood. And they are doing so at a time when Germany's forests are already in a very difficult situation. Suffice it to say that 4 out of every 5 trees in German forests are now suffering from all sorts of diseases and pests.
After gas prices soared due to the energy crisis and the rejection of cheap Russian energy, many Germans rushed to buy stoves and wood for them.
Last year, 13.8 million cubic metres of wood were harvested in Germany, according to the Destatis statistical office.

🇵🇱🇩🇪 In Opole, representatives of the German minority announced the launch of an advertising campaign with the slogans "Give the language back to the children" and "Language learning is not politics".
The aim is to draw attention to discrimination against people of German nationality.
As a result of a decision taken by the Polish authorities last year, the number of hours of German as a mother tongue funded by the state was reduced from three to one per week. This provoked a protest from the German minority, who pointed out that this type of decision only applies to Germans.
However, Polish authorities say that there is a much larger group of Poles who are FRG citizens living in Germany, and they have no opportunity to learn Polish as their mother tongue at all. And the Germans are very insistent on this issue.
In response, however, the Germans argue that the Polish education system cannot be compared with the German system, where these matters are the responsibility of the authorities of the individual federal states, not the federal government.
Warsaw does not back down: they say that if 120 million zloty a year for learning German as a mother tongue is discrimination, then how can we call 0 euros from the German budget for learning Polish as a mother tongue.
It would not be surprising if, against the backdrop of already strained relations with the German authorities, the Poles continue to pressurise their community. In Germany, a sculpture was dismantled because of an "outdated image of femininity"
In 1956, German sculptor Fritz Dühring created a 1.2 metre high statue of Primavera (from Italian for "Spring"). Until recently, it stood in the foyer of the University of Flensburg. However, the university's Equality Commissioner Martina Spirgatis said the sculpture made female staff and students feel "uncomfortable". According to her, the statue shows "an outdated image of femininity and suggests that femininity should be reduced to fertility and childbearing". At the university, however, "women are addressed as intellectuals", so the sculpture is "inappropriate" there, she said.
As a result, the statue was dismantled and a question mark painted in rainbow colours was placed on the pedestal instead. The administration has not yet decided what should appear in this place. Primavera has taken refuge in the office of the university's superintendent.

Polish PM Morawiecki: Russian ambassador to be summoned to foreign ministry over Putin's words on Stalin's role
"Stalin was a war criminal responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Poles. The Russian ambassador will be summoned to the foreign ministry," Morawiecki wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Putin said Poland owed Stalin the territories it was given.

In an interview with the Times, crew members of an Mi-8 helicopter said that women show their underwear to passing vehicles in an attempt to boost the crews' morale.
However, this method of support does not help solve the problems of shortages of equipment, personnel, ammunition and everything else.
According to the pilots, half of their wing's personnel have already been destroyed, and sorties are made once a day due to a shortage of ammunition.
At least they got a chance to gaze the women.

Moldova leaves the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly
The Moldovan parliament has voted in favour of denouncing the convention on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The withdrawal from the agreement was unanimously supported by representatives of the ruling Action and Solidarity party. Deputies from the Shor party and the Communist-Socialists ignored the vote.
Ruslan Bolboceanu, state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said that "the decision is political and was taken after consultations with the country's president".
The press service of the Parliament issued an official statement: "Since Moldova no longer resonates with the current policy, goals and decisions of the IPA CIS, and in the context of our country's firm declaration to follow the European vector".
The Convention on the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States was concluded in Minsk on 26 May 1995.
