The leader of the SPD faction in the Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, stated that after Olaf Scholz's visit to Beijing, the Chinese authorities urged Russia not to use nuclear weapons.
"We should be grateful to the Chancellor because his visit to China helped prevent a possible nuclear strike by the Russian army on Putin's orders," said the faction leader.
In turn, military expert Carlo Masala, professor at the Bundeswehr University in Munich, said, "Scholz did not prevent a nuclear war, as there were no signs that a nuclear strike was inevitable."

The Israeli army has launched a new operation in the Gaza sector
Units of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the General Security Service have begun a military operation west of the city of Khan Yunis.
According to Arabic-language media reports, the operation is taking place in the area of the "Al-Amal" hospital complex.
Prior to the start of the operation, Israeli Air Force planes carried out a series of strikes in the vicinity of the complex, where Hamas facilities are located.
It is noted that hundreds of civilians, including refugees from other areas of the Gaza sector, are located within the complex.
The Red Crescent stated that communication with the hospital has been lost, and civilians are unable to leave the area of the clashes.
Earlier in Gaza, it was reported that 32226 people have died as a result of Israeli bombardments.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the question of inviting Ukraine to NATO as a complex issue, emphasising that it could serve as a pretext for war with Russia.
"It's a complex issue. [...] If [NATO] invites Ukraine and it receives security guarantees, it would be an invitation to war with Russia," he said.
Sikorski explained that the last two countries to join the alliance, Finland and Sweden, received security guarantees at the formal invitation stage, bypassing a transitional period.
In this context, the politician stated that, according to his information, NATO will not prepare a similar invitation for Kyiv ahead of the alliance's summit in Washington in July.

The US Army needs to learn lessons from the chaotic withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Avdiivka, writes Business Insider.
Ukraine's retreat from Avdiivka, where witnesses reported disorganised fleeing during the night, should be a troubling signal for the army.
"The withdrawal of Ukrainian units serves as a textbook illustration for the US Army of the problems, requirements, and considerations for reducing risks associated with the successful conduct of such an operation," said Captain Ryan Forte in a study for the Institute for Modern Warfare at West Point.
The defence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces collapsed under relentless Russian fire and waves of ground attacks. The US Army could find itself in a similar situation.
