#PeoplesHistory | Today, we remember the people of Jeju Island who, 77 years ago, began an armed uprising to fight for a unified, sovereign, and independent Korea - free of US interference.

Their heroic uprising was brutally crushed by the US-backed South Korean army and right-wing paramilitaries who massacred an estimated 30,000-60,000 people on the island. For years, Koreans were banned from even mentioning the Jeju Uprising and the subsequent massacre, and those who did were severely punished.

Though they were killed over seven decades ago, the martyrs of Jeju are present in the ongoing struggle of the Korean people for a sovereign nation free from US imperialism.

#PeoplesHistory | "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." —MLK

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., assassinated on April 4, 1968, for daring to confront the three evils in the United States: racism, poverty, and war.

A revolutionary who linked civil rights to economic justice and anti-imperialism, he was surveilled, jailed, and slandered—yet never silenced.
