BornHack 2019 - Bufferbloat and Beyond: How we reduced delays in the Linux networking stack by order
Bufferbloat is when a bottleneck router in the network reacts to congestion by queueing up too many packets. The result is long delays that are felt as interruptions by the end user: suddenly, the video skips, the game lags, or the web site stops responding.…
Looking to Buy: System76 Serval WS - Ubuntu | Should I Do It?
Hey all,
I am in the market for a new laptop. I am a 10 year OS X user who has recently been dual booting ubuntu on my 2010 Macbook Pro. It is time for this machine to retire and I would love to just move over to a Linux Distro when I do. I am a content creator on YouTube, so need a machine that can do some video editing\\screen recording\\gaming. I also work as a Front End Developer, so need a machine that I can use for Web Dev (and occasional hobby programming).
My budget is about $1,800-$2,000, so the base model of this machine is a possibility for me. Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly about this machine (and System76 as well). If you think I should get another machine, which one and why? Links to suggested machines appreciated.

Manjaro on Arm
Has anyone tried Manjaro on Arm yet?
I've downloaded some images to mess around with and have been flashing them. I tried it on a RockPro64 and ODroid N2. The RockPro64... meh. It kinda works, it's just what you would expect for an SBC. The EMMC doesn't seem to work for whatever reason and it crashed on me a few times. Also not exactly what anyone would call fast. Like a Raspberry Pi. If you were trapped on a desert island you could probably use it as a computer, maybe, in a pinch.
But the ODroid N2? Ho-le crap it's good. This is easily desktop level good. It's snappy as hell and just feels like a normal desktop. I can't believe how fast this is.
Anyway if you have an ODroid N2 you should really check this out.

I am seeing more and more freezing problems. Is the Linux kernel getting unreliable?
When browsing this subreddit, these days I quite often hear people telling how Linux freezes on their system. I am hearing more and more of these problems. So much that it made me pause and wonder, is the Linux kernel getting unreliable? In the past, Linux used to be the reliable choice, and Windows was the one that constantly crashed. The roles seem to be changing.
It would be more understandable if some hardware device didn't have a driver, but if Linux can just pull the carpet under your feet at any moment, it is worrisome. The answer to the question "does Linux run on this machine" cannot be "let me run it for couple of weeks and see if it freezes".
We all know the Torvalds' (and many other OS makers') rule: "Don't break the userspace." If I was Torvalds I would add a rule: "Don't freeze the computer." Heck, run the machine in 640x480 generic VESA display mode if that's what it takes, but don't freeze it arbitrarily.
Any comments on this? Are you currently experiencing any freezing problems on any of your machines?

AMD Radeon 5700XT dual 4K monitor setup working great under Ubuntu 18.04

https://i.redd.it/xivzmb85epg31.png
Hello all, made a short video on my experiences with the new Radeon 5700XT under Linux Ubuntu 18.04 for anyone that is interested, and also my thoughts on the current state of dual-monitor support in KDE Plasma and Cinnamon DE.
I've yet to give it a heavy-duty test (e.g. serious gaming), but can confirm that is working brilliantly with full hardware acceleration on a dual 4K monitor setup with the current official AMD release-day drivers.

Linux For PowerPC
Hi! I recently got a PowerMac G5 for pretty cheap and for the past couple days I've been trying to get it onto a version of linux. Now I'm not Linux expert and neither is my friends but we've tried everything that we can think of and nothing. We've tried to install Lubuntu and Debian but the furthest we've gotten was with a disc with Lubuntu 14.04. It finished installing so I go through the Boot Picker and go to the linux hard drive, and it waits a minute, then goes back to the boot picker except all the icons are messed up, and it wouldn't let me boot back to MacOS until I restarted the computer. I know that PowerPC isn't exactly supported by much anymore but that's why I was trying to get older versions on it. But I cannot seem to get it to work! Can someone please help???
My PowerMac model is the PowerMac G5 7,3, 2ghz, 1gb-RAM, air cooled. Can someone help find a version of linux that will actually install and work? Or is this gonna be like a project I did with a iMac 2007 that wouldn't run windows at all?

I thought I was in love, but she had BAGGAGE!
I work on Windows computers for a long time. Now i'm interested in doing web development. I researched linux distros and settled in one distro that I really like, after installing it and playing with it and reading some articles about the distro, I come to find out there is some controversy about the distro (Deepin). I really want to switch but my professional mind tells me this is to risky, so Ive looked Manjaro Deepin, but to me it dont compare to deepin, so what you tell me to help?
