Should i read a book on linux that was written in 2008?

I want to go deep into linux so after internet search i found two books, "Linux:The complete reference" by McGraw hill whose latest edition was written in 2008 and "Linux Bible" about which i don't know much.

Which book would cover intermediate to advanced level Linux?

Carote virus removal

y windows using friend got his PC infected with "carote" ransomeware, I managed to retrieve important files but they are still corrupted. now his PC has shutdown completely (i assume he downloaded more than just carote) so he asked me to retrieve the files. I found some software that claims to be able to save the files but I thought to check with reddit first.
