Happy Birthday, Dear Linux!

In two days, on August 25, we’ll traditionally celebrate the day when Linus Torvalds gifted to the world his product – operating system Linux. This story is a unique success story – because Linus had been developing his OS just for fun, and he hadn’t planned to conquer the IT Universe. However, he did :) And we already have been enjoying Linux for twenty-eight years. Happy birthday, Mr.Penguin Tux! We love you!

Hate towards systemd?

Honest question: Why do people dislike system and why is it being removed from distributions? I find systemd pretty easy to use and grasp, would love to know why there's hate towards it.

Should i read a book on linux that was written in 2008?

I want to go deep into linux so after internet search i found two books, "Linux:The complete reference" by McGraw hill whose latest edition was written in 2008 and "Linux Bible" about which i don't know much.

Which book would cover intermediate to advanced level Linux?

Carote virus removal

y windows using friend got his PC infected with "carote" ransomeware, I managed to retrieve important files but they are still corrupted. now his PC has shutdown completely (i assume he downloaded more than just carote) so he asked me to retrieve the files. I found some software that claims to be able to save the files but I thought to check with reddit first. Here is the link to the site: [https://cfoc.org/da/carote-files-virus-carote-ransomware-how-to-remove-restore-data/](https://cfoc.org/da/carote-files-virus-carote-ransomware-how-to-remove-restore-data/)

If you have any suggestions on how to deal with this I'll be happy to listen :D

Gnome is amazing!

So I've always hated Gnome after trying it for 10-15 minutes as everything seemed so restrictive and installing themes and extensions seemed more like a hack than a feature. Now I forced myself to learn the keyboard shortcuts, use it for more than 15 minutes and this is amazing. I used i3 and KDE because I like customizing but Gnome just works. Everything is much more coherent and design patterns are the same. I realized that using dash to dock or dash to panel, arc menu doesn't make sense as you're not using the desktop as you should be. I always thought Gnome was just wrong but using it is actually amazing. Even gave the stock Adawaita theme a try and it really is good and polished.

I thing it still lacks in some areas (in top bar battery, sound and wifi icons look kinda dated), but I never understood Gnome as I tried to use it as a traditional desktop. I am blown away.

Thank you Gnome devs and contributors!

Serenity – a new Unix-like graphical operating system for PCs. According to the author, "the goal is a marriage between the aesthetic of late-1990s productivity software and the power-user accessibility of late-2000s *nix". The OS is programmed in modern C++.
