Tons of Bug Fixes | Krita Weekly #3
The number of bug reports have rose from 18 to 33 this week, out if which my magnetic lasso is guilty of a couple. I promise I will take care of them as soon as I get rid of the university exams which are coming up. Thanks to our awesome development team…
Libinput Trackball Scroll *Without* Holding Down a Button
So, for years I've had a Logitech Trackman Marble mouse. It's been great but one thing that has annoyed me and my finger joints is the need to hold down target libinput ScrollButton in order to scroll with the trackball.
I recently picked up an Elecom Deft trackball mouse and am taking it for a test spin. With xinput I set applicable scrolling and draglock properties and everything works as expected, but there's still this annoying hold-down-a-button to scroll restriction. The Elecom has 8 physical buttons, I'd be more than happy to "chord" a couple of spare buttons via master + modifier to get desired auto scrolling behavior.
Is this a limitation of libinput, or is there a way to scroll via the trackball without holding down a button like one can do on a trackpad via 2-finger scrolling?

Linux is not GNU/Linux
Why are some people getting upset when I say that I run Linux and insist I call it GNU/Linux just because some of the tools I use is made by the GNU project.
With that logic I should call it KDE/Linux since a lot of tools I use is created by the KDE project

NTP server preference question
I have a linux VM running on a linux host, and the VM is using both the Centos pool as well as the host's IP address for NTP (host is running ntpd).
The VM insists on syncing to a remote Stratum3 server over the host it's on, reporting lower jitter numbers.
How does this make sense? Is local KVM scheduling SO flaky that an NTP server many hops away is more consistent than the VM host I'm running on?

TIL, electron requires setuid root to operate
Trying to start electron based app got
`[8808:1112/172922.397465:FATAL:setuid_sandbox_host.cc(157)] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /opt/pencil-3.1.0.ga/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755.`
`[1] 8808 trace trap /opt/pencil-3.1.0.ga/pencil`
That led me to [https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/17972](https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/17972)
And I realized, electron team decided to require electron based app to be run as root (at least part of it).
I suppose this is not how security should be handled.
Any security guys here to clarify?

Productivity app "Getting Things GNOME" wants to make a comeback. It's the only free & open-source native Linux desktop to-do app that caters specifically to GTD and isn't a commandline or web app. It needs to know if users are interested. Let the project know if it's worth saving.

Can I donate money to improving desktop linux?
I use desktop linux exclusively as my OS. Obviously we all know that it doesn't exactly "just work". Becoming a contributor is a bit out of my abilities with everything on my plate right now, but is there someway I could support improvements to desktop linux with like a monthly recurring donation? I'm not super rich but I could certainly give something for continuous improvements.
