Why does Gnome/GTK mainly use C while KDE/QT uses C++ instead?
I do realize that there is no "correct" language to be used, however I'm just wondering why the people behind gnome decided to go with C while KDE went with C++. Is it to do with performance? Ease of development? Or is there something much deeper to this?
My assumption is that the Gnome community chose C and just went along with it, while the KDE community were inclined to stick with C++ as the project is based on QT, which came out first.
If you were one of the founders of each, which language would you choose and why?

[THREAD] Is it okay to pay or a distro?
Do you think it's okay for [zorin os ultimate](https://zorinos.com/download/), to charge money for their ultimate version?
I tought, that all distros should be free.
I guess you somehow have to support them, but i really liked what elementaryOS did, 'pay the amount you want'
What's your opinion?

Old Mac mini 2009 -> Linux music machine
I’d love to hear some decent solutions to turn an old Mac mini 2009 into a Linux flac ripper / music server for my house. It’s a decent machine without much use but the latest it can go is El Capitan. Surely some form of Linux could make better use of this box of crashes.

x64 and Arm g++
Can I compile a C++ app (MySQL and mongoose) on x64 using g++ and deploy the binary to my pi (arm)?
Would I need to re-compile?
Would the code / libs be compatible at all?

Why would anyone develop or contribute to a software free of charge?
WhileI have a personal opinion on this but am interested in what are other people's thoughts. And more importantly, the opinion of programmers who actually develop FOSS, as I am not one of them.
I doubt that it is purely a romantic approach to contribute to the (digital) society, although this is part of the equation too. It is morally correct after all.

Not only desktop...
Much people here talking that desktop is the only platform where Linux isn't popular. But it's not so. Big amount of science equipment runs Windows. Oscilloscopes, electronic microscopes, wafer dicing machines, steppers and so on uses it. So, I want to ask you two questions:
1. Do we need to do something with this?
2. If yes then what and how?

Why the biggest distros are using Gnome when it's so unpolished and heavy? Not to mention the design choices...
Just wondering what makes Ubuntu, Fedora, Pop_OS and some other big and widely used distributions to pick Gnome over something like XFCE, KDE and even Cinnamon?
They are more customizable, user-friendly and looks much better. I would call them even more mature and stable as a DE.

Excited to make the switch!
Any suggestions for a newbie?
