What do the developers add to the Linux kernel?
Hello everyone !
I have been using Linux for like a year and a half, and I am definitely never ever switching back to windows unless there is a gun to my head (even then I will think about it :P ) .
Anyway , all jokes aside I don't have all the required knowledge yet, to know the answer to the question :
"What do they improve on the kernel? "
The kernel is still being developed and will be for many years to come for sure.. But in my mind , you develop something up until you get a stable release and eliminate bugs.
So what are they improving? Are they fixing bugs? Ofc bugs could come up and they need to be dealt with , but are they so many in terms of numbers that the kernel keeps going?
Is it ever going to stop being developed?
Cheers :)

OSFirstTimer YouTube Channel
Want to kill some time and have a good laugh? Go to this guy's YouTube channel and watch the Destroy videos. His Mum has a set amount of time and some rules in a few of them where she has to destroy an OS by making it not bootable. He uses a VM for these videos so nothing too important of HIS get's destroyed.
Very entertaining and if you're in quarantine and haven't seen these yet, give this a look-see.

Choosing a 32-bit RPM-based distro
I have a couple of aging netbooks that are running old Fedora versions (I like bleeding edge and prefer RPM).
I wanted to upgrade to a newer version, but Fedora no longer supports 32-bit. I couldn’t find a 32-bit CentOS 8 and ran into some problems booting with CentOS 7 (LiveUSB).
I guess I could try to troubleshoot my issue with CentOS7, but it’s also a good opportunity to try a different distro.
Any suggestions?

how to grow, track into OS creation . . . what to work on, what to focus on . . .
generally interested in OS development . . . relatively inexperienced . . .
what can I read in a C textbook to accelerate my ability to harness the language & apply it to operating systems . . .
also, where to even begin beyond textbooks ? I am reading the Minix book for reference . . . and I figure that's a start, but still, I feel like I may be missing something?
what would you suggest to work on as a personal project? to get to the point where I can tackle something epic like a kernel?
...again, relatively inexperienced

Music Player!
Help!
I'm looking a music player that is similar to quodlibert. With this I will likely move and setup kubuntu and start using it full time to trial Linux. It is a total non starter if the music app is crap!
I have organised my 35000 music collection to directly be first genre selected, then artist and then track so quoibert and the tables work fine.
Currently using music bee and anyone who has used this knows how powerful it is.
The issue I have with quodlibert is the rating system.
For some reason it doesn't like what ever music bee uses for the ratings.
If someone could advise how I can fix this or recommend a different app that would be great.
I must say any programs that display the artist first is useless with the music I have as I have 70 different genres of music and lots of compilations. I don't really care about the album so dialing down to the album is a waste of time.

Will a Linux SSD work if plugged in an other computer?
Case scenario:
I’ve got a laptop with an ssd that has linux as the only OS on it.
My laptop breaks for any reason, can i plug my ssd into an other laptop and expect to access all my files on the ssd?
Linux distro in this case is Trisquel (based on ubuntu) if that matters.
Thanks a lot

Installing linux on an old DVR
Ok, first let me start of by saying this probably doesn't belong here but any help would be nice. I have an old xfinity dvr, a few years old at this point. Is there any possible way anyone could think of installing linux onto it to perhaps use as a mini pc?

[appimage-builder](https://github.com/AppImageCrafters/appimage-builder) v0.5.0 is now available and ready for use. Creating an AppImage is now simpler than ever. Check the project documentation to get started [https://appimage-builder.readthedocs.io/](https://appimage-builder.readthedocs.io/) or get in touch for assistance.
[appimage-builder](https://github.com/AppImageCrafters/appimage-builder) is a novel tool for creating AppImages. It uses the system package manager to resolve the application dependencies and create a complete portable bundle (AppImage).

debian buster filesystem cache
using database(mongodb, postgresql) cause that many data storing at filecache in RAM. All things run good before resetup system to debian 10 (buster 4.19 core). Now all run as usually, but swap slowly growing. setting `vfs_cache_presure =1000` and `swappiness=1` didnt help.
Has anyone faced with this?

Update: the Network Performance Monitor project is now available on GitHub
#####Link to the repository:
https://github.com/mr-canoehead/network_performance_monitor
#####Background
A couple of weeks ago I posted a denoscription of my Network Performance Monitor project which makes use of the Network Namespaces kernel feature:
https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/fq4s49/having_some_fun_with_network_namespaces_built_a/
Several people requested that I post the project on GitHub, so I have used the intervening time to build setup noscripts and a documentation set to make implementing and using the system more accessible to other potential users of the system.
The setup/installation guide can be found in the project Wiki:
https://github.com/mr-canoehead/network_performance_monitor/wiki
I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the project!
