Will a Linux SSD work if plugged in an other computer?

Case scenario:
I’ve got a laptop with an ssd that has linux as the only OS on it.
My laptop breaks for any reason, can i plug my ssd into an other laptop and expect to access all my files on the ssd?
Linux distro in this case is Trisquel (based on ubuntu) if that matters.
Thanks a lot

Installing linux on an old DVR

Ok, first let me start of by saying this probably doesn't belong here but any help would be nice. I have an old xfinity dvr, a few years old at this point. Is there any possible way anyone could think of installing linux onto it to perhaps use as a mini pc?

appimage-builder v0.5.0 released

[appimage-builder](https://github.com/AppImageCrafters/appimage-builder) v0.5.0 is now available and ready for use. Creating an AppImage is now simpler than ever. Check the project documentation to get started [https://appimage-builder.readthedocs.io/](https://appimage-builder.readthedocs.io/) or get in touch for assistance.

[appimage-builder](https://github.com/AppImageCrafters/appimage-builder) is a novel tool for creating AppImages. It uses the system package manager to resolve the application dependencies and create a complete portable bundle (AppImage).

debian buster filesystem cache

using database(mongodb, postgresql) cause that many data storing at filecache in RAM. All things run good before resetup system to debian 10 (buster 4.19 core). Now all run as usually, but swap slowly growing. setting `vfs_cache_presure =1000` and `swappiness=1` didnt help.

Has anyone faced with this?

Update: the Network Performance Monitor project is now available on GitHub

#####Link to the repository:

https://github.com/mr-canoehead/network_performance_monitor

#####Background

A couple of weeks ago I posted a denoscription of my Network Performance Monitor project which makes use of the Network Namespaces kernel feature:

https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/fq4s49/having_some_fun_with_network_namespaces_built_a/

Several people requested that I post the project on GitHub, so I have used the intervening time to build setup noscripts and a documentation set to make implementing and using the system more accessible to other potential users of the system.

The setup/installation guide can be found in the project Wiki:

https://github.com/mr-canoehead/network_performance_monitor/wiki

I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the project!

Now I get you in terms of Linux for desktop is king

Hey guys,

sysadmin here, have used Linux as a desktop system for a few years, but my main rig is windows (competitive gaming :/). Because of working from home (thanks Corona) I am forced to use the crappy windows machines we were issues at work. Fortunately a colleague of mine and myself are issues mac book pros 13 inches for development as well. I was pretty amazed how well this thing worked and enjoyed using it for many tasks. I was really thinking that a Mac could be a really great alternative for work.

Now comes today: My mainboard of my rig broke yesterday and I will have to pass at least 1 week before spare parts are delivered. Real replacements will take 6 weeks or so. So I decided to just use my docking station of my work laptop and connect my monitors, keyboard and stuff to the macbook. I am really frustrated with the experience. Never had real problems so far on the macbook itself, but now with mouse, keyboard and 2 monitors it is a different story. Using it makes no fun at all, everything is unintuitive. Yes it works with the touchpad and one monitor but thats it. Everything takes more time then on a linux machine, feels slow. Even scrolling and switching between windows feels really weird. Chrome is buggy as hell on desktop OSX. I never really thought about that when I was using the macbook.

I never got the point when people were stating that osx is a shitty platform and yes it works extremely well with a macbook without anything connected to it, but for a real power user like me it does not seem to work at all with multiple monitors. It does not feel designed for using more then one monitor. I really miss my Linux laptop, but I have to use the macbook for a while.

Discussion: The biggest issue with Linux desktop

Hi guys, it’s been 6 months since I discovered Linux and completely wiped out Windows switching to Manjaro. I’m one of those people, who in a situation like this, want to make the best choice possible. Right now I’m really content with my switch, but back then it took me too much time and effort to check every single popular distribution.

I barely gave up, because there are way too many distros on the market. I suspect, some will argue saying that this is why Linux is so amazing, because there is this pervasive freedom where you can choose what suits you best. Although, I think this is just what kills Linux, especially for those less advanced.

Most people don’t want to mess with variety of distributions, tinkering Arch until it reflects their soul. They would rather like to know that there is a competitor to Windows worth trying called Manjaro, and that’s all! Having a few Desktop Environments to chose from is really nice, but having to choose between hundreds of distributions puts entry threshold too high. Especially when, those distribution don't differ that much(new people don't know about it).
I’m really sad seeing all of those people split up, fighting a war on the internet, trying to convince each other to the ultimate distro of their choice. This really keeps novices away.

What’s your views on it? I feel Linux is on the verge of revival, but this problem remain things intact.

Hi guys, i hagve small problem with pop os bootloader. I want to Dual boot pop os and windows 10, and this is the only method that worked for me: [Deal with the new systemd-boot (and set a default Windows entry)](https://medium.com/@mijorus/deal-with-the-new-systemd-boot-and-set-a-default-windows-entry-be1814a0c975)

It works fine, but when i try to boot to windows it says:

*“error loading efi /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi: not found*
*Failed to execute Windows 10 (EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\bootmgfw.efi): Not found"*

Its weird becouse after secound it boot to windows without any problem.
