Oneshot: easily transfer files to and from your terminal and any browser + support for serving from stdin and to stdout, CGI, setting custom headers, redirects for link sharing, bot detection, homescreen icon, custom CSRF tokens, custom upload client page and more (v1.5.0 update)

Just released a major update for oneshot, the first-come first-served single-fire HTTP server.

The aim of oneshot is to make it as easy as possible for you to transfer data to and from your terminal and any browser, no matter the use case. With this in mind, the following features have been added since the last announcement on here:

\- Filter out bots; you can now share oneshot links over iMessage without the preview stealing your download.

\- Redirects; makes it really easy to share links without needing to write HTML / JS for it. You can even set the HTTP status code if you want.

\- Homescreen icon; makes for a nice and easy oneshot client on mobile devices.

\- CSRF tokens; have tighter control over your file uploads.

\- Custom upload page for clients; you can now present a custom upload page (can be a Go HTML template that receives a .CSRFToken string)

\- Several bug fixes

Feedback is appreciated, thanks!

unused RAM not used?

I use an artix+runit+dwm system, with 3 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM

I can't use Discord and other heavy applications cause as soon as it hits 1.5 GiB mark, the system becomes very slow and laggy

The load avg is not that high too, like it's mostly at around 1.5 (I have a dual core pentium with 2 threads so this is normal right?)

Why does this happen when I still have lots of unused RAM?

And what can I do to resolve this?

Looking for (free) usb writing software for windows vista

I’m trying to put Manjaro on an old Dell PC but my jump drive isn’t registering as a bootable. I believe it’s because I simply drag-and-dropped Manjaro onto the drive, but I can’t find a usb writer for vista. Also, I’m VERY new to this with average level knowledge of computers so bear with me.

Are there any Ryzen laptops that don't have atrociously loud fan curves when doing mild tasks?

So far I've tried the Zephyrus G14 (twice), Zenbook 14 UM424IA, Dell Inspiron 7405, and the ThinkBook 13s. None have left me particularly happy.

Genuinely going crazy that I can't find a device that won't spin the fans up just by opening a single tab on Firefox. I've tried PopOS, ElementaryOS, Ubuntu, and Fedora (SilverBlue and Workstation).

I'm unfortunately very sensitive to fan noise and prolonged periods leave me in a poor spirit.

Considering just picking up an M1 MacBook and hoping Asahi Linux will come to fruition. Recommendations would be appreciated for something with a decent battery size (no less than 57wh) and no bigger than 16 inches. Price is not a concern.

How would I learn more about the linux distributions run on embedded devices like routers?

I was trying to learn more about linux and how embedded devices tick, and I noticed that my router (Asus RT-AX3000) runs a strange version of linux, at least compared to the other distro's i've used. The root filesystem seems to have a strange setup compared to the other distro's ive e.g ubuntu server, manjaro, etc. This embedded version of linux has directories that i've never seen before. Looking for some clarity on what exactly they are used for. Heres what I found when i ran 'ls' on the root filesystem:

bin cifs1 cifs2 data debug dev etc home jffs lib mmc mnt opt proc rom root sbin sys sysroot tmp usr var www

I Won't Be Able To Take My AP Tests Because CollegeBoard Doesn't Support Linux

The software only came out a few days ago. I just realized there is no Linux version.

Maybe it was too much to think that CollegeBoard, a "non-profit" (that happens to make millions of dollars off students every year through monopolistic control over college admissions processes), would have accessibility in mind when it comes to a digital platform for education. Are all first-generation high school students expected to shell out thousands for a Mac, or >$100 for a Windows license? I also find it highly unlikely that they would have access to "school-managed chromebooks." These tests should be accessible to all who would like to take them. Here are the links:

https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams/technical-requirements
http://cb.org/ap2021examapp

I respectfully request you to share this as much as possible. More people should be aware of this horrible situation, and it would to great to raise awareness with articles on Phoronix, etc. Eventually, I would hope CollegeBoard notices something needs to change and develops a Linux version of the software (even if it requires a specific distribution).

Anyone here who knows about Rockey Linux? Can we trust them like Centos?

As I have read on the rocky Linux site it team lead by Gregory Kurtzer who was started Centos. CentOS was the perfect OS that I have used in my career.

If anyone here can tell me can trust Rocky Linux (bug-to-bug compatible with RHEL )also or we have to wait 1-2 years to compare with RHEL.

The devuan project now provides isos based on debian 11(testing).

If you are interested in a systemd-less debian go check it out the mirrors on the download page.

NOTE: not all mirrors provide the 4.0 iso as of now.
the 4.0 branch is called chimera
