Distributions with apparmor

Are they safer, after installation, Ubuntu or openSUSE for bringing installed and activated Apparmor, or Fedora with Selinux, which Archlinux, Manjaro or Endeavouros, who do not bring anything from that standard?

Any tips for beginners

I’ve been using linux for around a year now but still feel like a noob, i have trouble using the terminal I can never remember the exact commands and have to check with makes the process long and painful. How do you get use to using the terminal, did you just memorize the commands? If so how long did it take, are there tactics etc...

For those of you working as Linux sysadmins, what distro(s) do you prefer to use at home?

Do you like to use a distro that’s in the same family as what you use at work (e.g. using Fedora as a RHEL admin)? Or do you prefer to use something else?

Just thought this would be an interesting topic to hear people’s opinions on. I don’t currently work in IT so I‘m curious what the "Linux professionals“ like to use in their free time.

The default route will not change on ubuntu 20.04

Hello Team. I recently flashed a 2014 Mac Mini to Ububtu 20.04 to serve as a DNS and network monitoring server in the Data Center. When I hooked up to a wired network, I set the IP address via the desktop network settings. The connection works at home and is still working. I took the Mac Mini/Linux box to the Data Center and I got a DHCP address. however the default route was still pointing to the one used at my house (192.168.....). I changed the YAML file for netplan and it changes momentarily, however, when I go back to connect I get the same settings as before. Any idea of what causes this?

Has there ever been a linux distro that was created for malicious reasons? For example including malware to steal passwords, etc.

Really curious if there ever has been a linux distro that was made for something like that. I can't really find much info on the subject either. Mainly just posts asking "is linux secure" or "can linux get malware" which is not what I'm looking for.

For work/life separation, do you use separate accounts on the OS, separate OSes, or separate machines?

I am curious about those of you who use Linux as a daily driver at work.
Do you use the same account for personal and work use? Do you use separate accounts on the same OS, one for work, one for play?
Do you boot into separate distros? Or do you have separate machines for work and play?

I'm asking because I currently use my one computer for both work and personal use. Unfortunately, I've found I get distracted pretty easily, especially when certain programs (discord, 0ad, etc.) are easily accessible. So, I'm hoping to get some inspiration from you guys for some thoughtful solutions.

Low space, advise needed

I have a remote server far-far away from me. Also there is a file I need to download from it. The file size is about 150Gb. Total HDD size is 250Gb. So now less then 100G's are free. Download speed is about 300kB/s, so the total download time is over 100 hours. The issue is in unreliabile network between me and server. Every few hours I have a VPN drop, so the file download is also dropped and I had to restart it. I thought about using 'split' command and making small chunks to download one by one. Here is the where space issue starts it's effect - only 100Gb is free on HDD and 'split' is firstly doing copies of the original, not overwriting it. So now I have original file (150G) and a lot of xab, xac, ... (10G) chunks, but the total free space is not enough for both and I get an memory error from 'split'.

Can you advise something?

Does anyone have any experience as a regular Linux desktop user in a larger professional environment?

I have been using Linux for maybe 10 years at home. But at work we do of course use Windows as almost everybody else. I work for a government agency with around 2000 employees. We do what I think most larger organizations do; send emails, writing documents, spreadsheets, presentations, SharePoint, different web-based systems, a lot of meetings and video conferences (Skype), both internal and external. We don’t really use very specialized software such as CAD.

But I am personally very curious if someone have any experience of using Linux (and the associated software) as a “regular” desktop user in larger professional environment. How is it? Desktop environment? What software do you use? What is your overall impression? Issues?

It seems to me that it would be a bit difficult to obtain the same level of integration that you get in a Windows environment, for example handling meetings and such?

WiFi: Can rtw88 firmware error be caused by USB and power?

## Booting information

I have a dual boot system with Manjaro on my HDD and Windows 10 on SSD. After I
am done with my work on Windows, I shut my laptop down, turn it on again and
boot into Manjaro normally.

## Problem scenario

Recently, my journald and dmesg logs are flooded with

```
rtw_8822ce: failed to send h2c command
```

And cryptic error logs where it says it is trying to "reestablish connection"
and/or "requesting hardware restart".

This repeats until the WiFi goes completely berserk and loses connection, never
to reconnect back again. Strangely, Bluetooth works completely fine (it
properly connects and disconnects).

**This only happens if I am booting Manjaro after using Windows.**

**Also, this problem persists irrespective of Windows fast boot.**

## Apparent solution

Here are the steps I took that temporarily solves the problem:

1. Shut down the laptop from Windows.
2. Disconnect power supply.
3. Remove any USB peripheral and plug it back in.
4. Reconnect power supply.
5. Turn the laptop on.
6. Boot into Manjaro.

No more WiFi errors appear as long as I'm not booting into Windows. If I do boot
back into Windows, I am required to follow the same steps again.

Note that Windows has no problem with the WiFi hardware whatsoever, which
reinforces my hypothesis that this is not a hardware issue.

## Information about Network Adapters

```
Some online forums said that it is a faulty Realtek driver, and suggested that
[lwfinger](https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw88)'s driver be used. I used it
without any success.
## Information about hardware
```
$ inxi -M

UEFI: American Megatrends v: FX505DV.312 date: 01/28/2021
```
According to my research and via online forums, this problem is extremely
common with the Asus TUF Gaming line of products. Unfortunately, I found no
solution to the problem that pin-pointed towards TUF Gaming's
hardware/firmware.
I even opened up my device to check for loose connections, and concluded that
there were none.
## My questions
1. Is there any relation among power, USB and Wifi adapters?
2. Is there any possible permanent solution to this?
Honestly the Linux desktop is becoming more and more mainstream. I'm pretty new to linux but trying Endless OS was an amazing experience. I feel like Ubuntu's getting better with their 'ease of use' although I couldn't locally install without having to change grub with nouveau modeset because nvidia kept making Ubuntu crash with infinite-boots :/
Arch Linux for Beginners
Well that is an oxymoron if I've ever seen one. Arch Linux is known for not being a beginner-friendly distribution, largely due to the fact that the installation process requires a lot of customizations and manual work; however, this is also makes the distro a fertile learning environment.
If Arch Linux is approached properly, I feel it is not only feasible for beginners to use Arch Linux, it is actually a more educational introduction to Linux than most other distributions. The key is to move slowly and thoroughly investigate each step of the process to understand what each command is actually doing.
Personally, I found creators like LearnLinuxTV and DistroTube invaluable when I was first learning Arch and Linux in general; however, there is an improvement I would like to make on their installation tutorials. I feel their guides are designed to get users up and running with Arch quickly, which necessitates quicker explanations of what each command is doing and the installation of packages that are less than absolutely necessary.
So, at the time of posting, I am live-streaming an Arch Linux installation with the intent of teaching newer users about Linux. We will go over the Arch Wiki's installation guide with a fine tooth comb to not just execute, but understand every step of the installation process. After the installation is complete, we will tour the OS to see its features and understand the typical OS directory structure.
This is a bit of a pedagogical experiment, so I'd love to hear your feedback on the idea. Do you think the Arch installation is too dense to give to beginners, or do you like to learn by jumping in the deep end?
