Thanks, and a follow up to this post
Hey all, thanks for your amazing input on btrfs vs. other file systems. The 8 TB drive arrived this morning. Apparently 8 TB to Seagate isn’t based on 1,024, but 1,000
And oh fun, the RPi basically IO locks when moving 2 TB of data over it’s USB Bus. iostat and other tools just don’t even run. There is a reason they are hobby machines. Go to bed, and hope stuff went well.
Also, Jesus h... don’t fuck up your fstab if you don’t have physical access to your RPi. I fat fingered one character... you know how this went.
So, I ended up putting a bit over 6TB to ext4, the other partition will be experimental btrfs. I’m going to buy 4 more and a PC, and a hardware RAID controller and sadly, Google’s TPUs are external. (My company is building a TensorFlow based AI, I need something stupidly fast.)

Ubuntu snapshot and re-install
Is it possible to take a snapshot of the OS and install it on a different computer? For example: I have Ubuntu on a computer and would like to take that same configuration (drivers and all) and install it on a different computer.

AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out
hey friends, trying to reinstall Linux on my desktop pc. I'm always having the same problem. After I choose to install in the initial installation-screen and after some black screens I get the message: 'AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out'. Then depending on the distribution I get nothing or cryptic messages repeating, without any changes. I tried ubuntu (18.04.2 & 19.04), fedora and arch so far. The only thing I found on google was changing the iommu settings in the north bridge configuration. Which didn't help. Whats also strange is, that I already had ubuntu installed some time ago without any changes to the system.
Here is my current system:
AMD Ryzen 5 1400
2 x 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR4-3200 CL16
XFX Radeon RX 550 4GB
ASRock AB350M Pro4

Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.

Chinese Linux-based "domestic operating systems".
I recently read about chinese linux-based "domestic operating systems" and there seem to be at least three of them (besides deepin). Their names are NeoKylin, YHKylin and the third one I don't really understand or cannot be translated.

From what little research I did I found out that they have very different backgrounds. NeoKylin is developed by a chinese tech company called S2C Standard Software, YHKylin is a community effort based on Ubuntu Kylin and the third one is developed by the National Academy of Science and Technology (or something like that).
Can anyone who speaks Chinese provide more info on these distros?

Aggravated by website that blocks Linux users
This is a rant, so mods delete if it's in the wrong subreddit. I rent a storage space and pay my bill online monthly. Well this month I went to the website and got a 403 page. Huh, misconfigured NGINX server or the bookmarked URL changed.
I went to the front page, nope, go away it said, in black and white. Two days later, same thing. I pulled up the site on my Android phone and, what? The website is displaying fine so I paid my bill. Back to my Ubuntu laptop and 403, with Chrome and Firefox! Ok, sanity check. I change my user agent string on Firefox and the site shows fine!
They are actively blacklisting Linux? Two detailed emails to customer service, no response. Two messages on Facebook and they get my account number and a promise to punt to their IT dept. No response, crickets.
Sorry, I just can't think of a scenario where a commercial website would block a customer who uses Linux! I'm going to write a letter to their HQ. I'm sure their execs wouldn't want to pay for hosting and IT not displaying their site.
