There aren't many distros to choose from

I got to thinking.. there really aren't many distros to choose from. These are your options:

* Ubuntu
* Debian
* Fedora
* Arch
* OpenSUSE

That's it. Every distro nowadays is a derivative of those 5. Each one comes with its own set of problems:

Ubuntu - Its version of gnome has a different package name just so they can add the sidebar that nobody liked. Random things that should work don't. There was a time where gnome-software didn't work. Random apps would crash, and sometimes uninstalling one thing would make the whole system fall apart. I couldn't even get 18.04 to install. I never tried 19.04 yet but I trust it'll suck like everything after 14.04.

Debian - A nightmare to install, uses old versions for everything, shit outdated installer that doesn't work on a USB. There's really no (good) derivatives of it either (except Ubuntu)

Fedora - A shitter Ubuntu. It's missing core libraries every distro has that somehow, Fedora doesn't. I had issues with playing videos and installing certain desktops because a lot of dependencies were missing. You'd think after 30 versions they'd get it right, but apparently they don't care about their software, so why should I?

Arch - There's no well-maintained gui-based Arch installer that uses the original repos. You're FORCED to use either Manjaro or plain Arch. I never got the appeal of starting with a terminal and building your system from the ground up. Seems like a massive waste of time when you can just customise Linux as much as you want anyway (or at least as much as the severely limited software library and your lack of coding knowledge permit you to).

OpenSUSE - I always thought it was bloated. Or maybe my computer just sucks, idk. I guess I'll try it again at some point. Also there's no user repos or easy way to install software that isn't on their official repos. You either compile it yourself or sit back and get fucked.

Every other distro that exists is just a respin of the 5 mentioned. Elementary OS and PopOS are just Ubuntu. Deepin is just debian. Manjaro is basically the Ubuntu of Arch, centOS and RHEL are just two retarded version of Fedora for web servers. I mean yes, there's more options than Windows or Mac, but "better" doesn't mean "good".

Ram limitation?

Windows having 32 Gigabit of ram limitation. Which mean even you have 64 Gigabit of ram you still only able to use 32 of 64 Gigabit of ram. Is there also a limitation with linux? What is the value of ram it is limited?

Bradly Kuhn: Paid $70,000 per year to lie to you.

Recently Bradly Kuhn, who is not a lawyer, recited on his blog that "unilaterally granted copyright permissions are generally irrevocable anyway." ( [https://sfconservancy.org/blog/](https://sfconservancy.org/blog/) ).

This is incorrect. A license is simply permission, absent valid consideration - the taker cannot bind the copyright owner to whatever "promises" were made to him. Obeying the freely-given license, and thus not violating the owner's copyright, is not valid consideration since it is a pre-existing legal duty. Illusory Promises are not enforced by the courts.

Bradly Kuhn is committing something in the shadow of legal malpractice, however he is not a lawyer and you are not his client (so it doesn't measure up to that level)

Remeber: The SFLC (of which Bradly Kuhn was the director) didn't even know that you have to register your copyrights before filing suit: [https://groups.google.com/forum/?\_escaped\_fragment\_=topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM#!topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM](https://groups.google.com/forum/?_escaped_fragment_=topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM#!topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM)

They are a bunch of fools, who exist for one purpose: to encourage you to run out the clock on the statute of limitations (as seen in the GRSecurity debate vis a vis Bradly Kuhn) and to convert your property to the "people's" property.

Remember Kuhn, Moglen, etc make a living off of your software and fooling you: and no you can't have any of that money: it's only for their guys, not you (be cognizant of names)

monitor network usage per browser tab

Hi,
I am looking for a software or Chrome add on that will monitor internet usage per browser tab.
I googled a lot (days) and didn't find a real solution for this.
I want to see a list of browsertabs orderd by total downloaded data.
ntop can probably do it, but do I realy have to learn and configure a complicated program do achieve this?

Am I crazy for thinking about changing a new employer again after a few months should they continue their path to a more Microsoft based ecosystem?

I just started at a new employer a few months, ago because they pay really good compared to my city's average salary and offered a job I wanted because I developed a new passion towards Linux the last years in my life. I used Windows 20 years of my life, but about 5 years ago I fully switched to Linux at home and abandoned Windows and also Google services from my phone. Let's just say the NSA scandal made me think a looooot.

Last year I said to myself that I do also not want to work with Windows anymore (it was also that the salary was wayyy BELOW our city's average and we had to travel a lot and after 3.5 years there they did not want to take away my junior noscript.) and follow a mostly non closed-source, non telemetry, non big five (Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft)-corporate path.

In my freetime I love to code, but since Linux related jobs are 90% admin jobs I took a new job at a local company. People are great, we are a big family etc etc. However, we are say 2.5 admins that have to do a SHITLOAD of work. 2 of us including me are new and one is part of the company for longer.

What they did not tell me is that about a year ago they did a fusion with a company from a neighboring country which of course uses a similar core service software for their core business that serves the same purpose. Ours is Linux based, theirs is windows based. Somehow in discussion they decided to go with the windows based software in the future and in the far future they will merge both softwares into a new one which will also be windows based.

Due to that fact we already had to install Windows machines the last 2 weeks, when we are really focusing on a much more important project. Learning the windows ecosystem is not of my interest, especially not enterprise-whise. I cannot do it in consensus with my leisure time skill, professional skill, philosophical, political or what-so-ever interest.

Thing is if it stayed at being just 10% of my work that would be OK and it will become wayyy more. The CEO (now our second CEO) from the company we fused with already talked with me about certificates related to Microsoft. My mind went immediately into alarm mote and I though: "I have to get out of here. Using anything but unixoid systems and open source" is plain wrong and utterly stupid.

Now my dilemma is. I just went into a Linux job for a first time and it would probably look bad as F in my CV if I changed an employee after a few month (because of that, because I will tell my reasons in all honesty to the next job interviewer!).

What would you guys do?
