Do you know of any hackable/opensource based e-book readers?

I'm annoyed with the fact I cannot modify software of my Kindle, to better fit my needs. Are there any open-source alternatives?

Is there a reason AMD users receive package updates for intel-microcode?

Just wondering if there's a reason I get updates on Intel microcode given that my machine is currently powered by a B450 mainboard and 2700X CPU.

If mods still count this as support post, that's cool, I'll just go to another sub and ask there again.

Do any of you use conservative email clients like Sylpheed, Claws, Mutt, etc. even today? How's the experience?

I mostly want to know whether any of these support gmail and yahoo-mail as I use them both. If yes, then how tedious is the setup because GMail and Yahoo only support the OAuth these days and not the traditional IMAP/SMTP as it used to in the earlier days.

Which of the video NLE's have the tightest integration to headless rendering? (typically with MLT)

Four of the NLE projects on linux are based on MLT, as i understand it. (KDEnlive, shotcut, etc)

I'm looking for some kind of editor which would optimally allow you to:

* set up a simple project, in the graphical editor. Using some still images and maybe video.
* take that project file and read it in a human readable format
* **render video in a headless system** (cron-based)
* perhaps make manual edits to the project file, with a text editor
* perhaps take it back to the NLE *after* the manual edits

The reason why I want this is because i want to make scheduled renders of video projects, where the input data is being replaced daily, on disk

Is MLT/melt what i want for this, and which graphical editor is then the most mature?

Does anyone have the apk for an android Amarok remote?

It looks like the Amarok music player had a few android based remote control applications around 5 years ago, but they've all disappeared form the play store and I can't find the .apk files mirrored anywhere, though the plugin noscripts for the player are still available.

amaroKontrol looks to be the most fleshed out and is the one I'd prefer, but Amarok2 Remote and Amarok RC were the other two applications I've found reference to.

A powerful tool for preparing your Debian based Linux OS.

Hi, this is my new project on Github, I want to know your opinion about it. Your ideas and comments will help me to improve it, thanks.

There aren't many distros to choose from

I got to thinking.. there really aren't many distros to choose from. These are your options:

* Ubuntu
* Debian
* Fedora
* Arch
* OpenSUSE

That's it. Every distro nowadays is a derivative of those 5. Each one comes with its own set of problems:

Ubuntu - Its version of gnome has a different package name just so they can add the sidebar that nobody liked. Random things that should work don't. There was a time where gnome-software didn't work. Random apps would crash, and sometimes uninstalling one thing would make the whole system fall apart. I couldn't even get 18.04 to install. I never tried 19.04 yet but I trust it'll suck like everything after 14.04.

Debian - A nightmare to install, uses old versions for everything, shit outdated installer that doesn't work on a USB. There's really no (good) derivatives of it either (except Ubuntu)

Fedora - A shitter Ubuntu. It's missing core libraries every distro has that somehow, Fedora doesn't. I had issues with playing videos and installing certain desktops because a lot of dependencies were missing. You'd think after 30 versions they'd get it right, but apparently they don't care about their software, so why should I?

Arch - There's no well-maintained gui-based Arch installer that uses the original repos. You're FORCED to use either Manjaro or plain Arch. I never got the appeal of starting with a terminal and building your system from the ground up. Seems like a massive waste of time when you can just customise Linux as much as you want anyway (or at least as much as the severely limited software library and your lack of coding knowledge permit you to).

OpenSUSE - I always thought it was bloated. Or maybe my computer just sucks, idk. I guess I'll try it again at some point. Also there's no user repos or easy way to install software that isn't on their official repos. You either compile it yourself or sit back and get fucked.

Every other distro that exists is just a respin of the 5 mentioned. Elementary OS and PopOS are just Ubuntu. Deepin is just debian. Manjaro is basically the Ubuntu of Arch, centOS and RHEL are just two retarded version of Fedora for web servers. I mean yes, there's more options than Windows or Mac, but "better" doesn't mean "good".

Bradly Kuhn: Paid $70,000 per year to lie to you.

Recently Bradly Kuhn, who is not a lawyer, recited on his blog that "unilaterally granted copyright permissions are generally irrevocable anyway." ( [https://sfconservancy.org/blog/](https://sfconservancy.org/blog/) ).

This is incorrect. A license is simply permission, absent valid consideration - the taker cannot bind the copyright owner to whatever "promises" were made to him. Obeying the freely-given license, and thus not violating the owner's copyright, is not valid consideration since it is a pre-existing legal duty. Illusory Promises are not enforced by the courts.

Bradly Kuhn is committing something in the shadow of legal malpractice, however he is not a lawyer and you are not his client (so it doesn't measure up to that level)

[https://gng.z505.com/sflc-2007-compensation.png](https://gng.z505.com/sflc-2007-compensation.png)

Remeber: The SFLC (of which Bradly Kuhn was the director) didn't even know that you have to register your copyrights before filing suit: [https://groups.google.com/forum/?\_escaped\_fragment\_=topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM#!topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM](https://groups.google.com/forum/?_escaped_fragment_=topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM#!topic/misc.int-property/ms9itWi1yVM)

They are a bunch of fools, who exist for one purpose: to encourage you to run out the clock on the statute of limitations (as seen in the GRSecurity debate vis a vis Bradly Kuhn) and to convert your property to the "people's" property.

Remember Kuhn, Moglen, etc make a living off of your software and fooling you: and no you can't have any of that money: it's only for their guys, not you (be cognizant of names)

monitor network usage per browser tab

Hi,
I am looking for a software or Chrome add on that will monitor internet usage per browser tab.
I googled a lot (days) and didn't find a real solution for this.
I want to see a list of browsertabs orderd by total downloaded data.
ntop can probably do it, but do I realy have to learn and configure a complicated program do achieve this?
