🇩🇪 Germany is debating whether to ban the far-Right Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the party surges to 21 per cent in the polls, amid warnings from intelligence officials that its members are becoming increasingly extreme

In a rare move, the respected Der Spiegel news magazine weighed into the debate with a leader noscriptd: “Ban the enemies of the constitution!” 
It warned that “the AfD has become more and more radicalised. It’s time to defend democracy with better weapons”.

The co-leader of Olaf Scholz’s ruling Social Democrats also said a ban should be considered if the AfD is categorised as a group of “proven Right-wing extremists” by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

🇦🇷 - In yesterday's Argentinian elections, the right-wing Freedom Advances party secured 31.5% of all votes, topping the polls.
The party, led by Javier Milei, is officially a libertarian movement. Nonetheless, Milei has been described as a paleolibertarian and his party's vice-presidential candidate is the daughter of a carapintada (member of a Catholic nationalist group in Argentina's military which attempted to stage several coups in the late 1980s).

🇦🇷 - The center-right Together for Change obtained 29.7% of the vote, while Union for the Fatherland, a center-left group claiming the legacy of former President Juan Perón, secured 28.7%.

These elections do not decide who will be in the Casa Rosada in November - they are a form of open primary, similar to the "jungle primary" in Louisiana.

🇪🇬🇯🇴🇵🇸 - The leaders of Egypt, Jordan and Palestine held a summit, calling for the "end of Israeli occupation and settler terrorism".

🇫🇮🇪🇺 - The True Finns' leader still believes leaving the EU should be part of his party's policy.

Once the Ukraine war reaches its conclusion, it will be interesting to see whether Eastern European nationalists return to their previous Euroskepticism (which Poland's national conservative government has begun doing) and perhaps seek a détente with Russia, or continue drawing closer to Brussels and Washington due to their hatred for "Muscovy" (which the Baltics have spent the last ten years doing).
The phrase "between a rock and a hard place" comes to mind.
