Alisa Teplyakova may have been the most talked-about child in Russia. At the age of 9, she became the youngest student of psychology at the Moscow State University.

Alisa had been homeschooled by her parents, who came up with what they call a ‘revolutionary’ teaching method for their seven children. Alisa’s father, Evgeniy, claims Alisa has already read all the textbooks and he’s convinced that his daughter could finish the course in just two years.

However, their story provoked heated debate in the media, some called it a ‘dangerous’ experience and many psychologists say that too much pressure can be harmful to children.

In the 90s, the Russian city of Novgorod was called the "Russian Chicago" for its extremely high crime rate.

The country's political instability after the collapse of the Soviet Union and economic decline led to a surge in violence. Doing business became life-threatening. Novgorod was hit the hardest because of its proximity to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The criminal activity from the two capitals added to its own.

Aleksandr Sadriyev was a very successful businessman, well known and respected by both the people and the authorities of Novgorod. His retail chain was doing well and invoked envy from the criminal circles who wanted a share of his profits.

However, Sadriyev was adamant, and tragedy did happen — he was murdered, and his apartment robbed. Anastasia, then a high school graduate, was convinced that sooner or later the killers would be found. And they were, after 24 years.

It's believed that the crested ibis has existed for 60 million years. The large bird was once a common sight in China, the Korean Peninsula, Japan and Russia, its shape was deeply rooted in Asian culture.

However, the population declined dramatically, and the species vanished from Korea, Russia and Japan. In the 1980s, Chinese conservation experts searched for the crested ibises in the Qinling Mountains and found the last seven of the species.

A controversial statue of President Theodore Roosevelt that stood outside the American Museum of Natural History in New York has been removed. The monument was criticised in recent years, as according to the museum, it ‘communicates a racial hierarchy’. The statue showed Roosevelt on horseback, flanked by a Native American man and an African man.
