📅 On May 9, 1945, at 12:43 am, the Instrument of Unconditional Surrender of Nazi Germany was signed, ending the Great Patriotic War and World War II in Europe.

Following a successful assault on Berlin by the Red Army, Adolf Hitler committed suicide. The noscript of Reich President and command of the armed forces of the Third Reich passed to Admiral Karl Dönitz.

Desperate to surrender to the British-American troops, on May 5, German delegation arrived in the French city of Reims, where the headquarters of the Western Allies command was located.

📜 In the Article 4 of the Reims Instrument of Surrender of Nazi Germany stated that this document did not rule out the signing of another, definitive act at the request of one of the coalition members.

Thus, the document was recognised by the Soviet Union only as a preliminary instrument, and a new signing ceremony was proposed to be held in the capital of Nazi Germany, liberated by the Red Army - Berlin.

🕕 By midnight, all representatives and the press gathered in the hall where the signing ceremony of the Instrument of Unconditional Surrender of Nazi Germany was to take place.

At 12:43 am, the ceremony ended.

🎙 On May 9, 1945, at 2:10 am Moscow time, announcer Yury Levitan read out the Instrument of Unconditional Surrender of Nazi Germany and the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR declaring May 9 Victory Day. On the evening of May 9, Joseph Stalin addressed the Soviet people; after his address, Yury Levitan read out the order on the complete victory over Nazi Germany and on an artillery salute with thirty volleys from a thousand guns at 10:00 pm.

From that moment on, the Soviet Union and later Russia, as well as some former Soviet republics have celebrated Victory Day on May 9. On this date, we commemorate all those who defended Moscow, defeated the invaders at Stalingrad, broke through the siege of Leningrad, and liberated Belarus, Ukraine and Europe. These were the people who took Berlin at the cost of their lives.

🌟 President of Russia – Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation Armed Forces Vladimir Putin attended a military parade marking the 78th Anniversary of Victory in the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War.

💬 Today, our civilisation is at a crucial turning point. A real war is being waged against our country again but we have countered international terrorism and will defend the people of Donbass and safeguard our security.

For us, for Russia, there are no unfriendly or hostile peoples either in the west or in the east. Just like the vast majority of people on the planet, we want to see a peaceful, free and stable future.

We believe that any ideology of superiority is abhorrent, criminal and deadly by its nature.

The Western globalist elites keep speaking about their exceptionalism, pit nations against each other and split societies, provoke bloody conflicts and coups, sow hatred, Russophobia, aggressive nationalism, destroy family and traditional values which make us human.

<...>

Their goal – and there is nothing new about it – is to break apart and destroy our country, to make null and void the outcomes of World War II, to completely break down the system of global security and international law, to choke off any sovereign centres of development.

Boundless ambition, arrogance and impunity inevitably lead to tragedies. This is the reason for the catastrophe the Ukrainian people are going through. They have become hostage to the coup d’état and the resulting criminal regime of its Western masters, collateral damage in the implementation of their cruel and self-serving plans.

<...>

❗️ I strongly believe that the experience of solidarity and partnership during the years of fighting a common threat is our invaluable heritage and a secure foothold now when the unstoppable movement is gaining momentum towards a more just multipolar world, a world based on the principles of trust and indivisible security, of equal opportunities for a genuine and free development of all nations and peoples.

🎬 Immortal Letters - an RT Doc. Film

Synopsis: The 9th of May is the Anniversary of the great victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, known in Russia and other former Soviet states as the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.

In the USSR which made the biggest contribution to the victory, hardly any family was unaffected by war - 27 millions died defending their motherland. However many survived the privations and terror of war against all odds. Today, legacy of those who fell on the battlefields and those who survived lives on in their personal letters from the front, diligently preserved by descendants and historians.

These letters reveal heartbreaking stories of young lives lost, the horror of battle, survival in besieged cities like during one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history - the siege of Leningrad, and the notorious evil of concentration camps. The letters are not all about death and doom; many also speak about love, patriotism, courage and the preservation of hope, even in the most desperate circumstances.

While Europe nowadays is about to forget the memory of those who saved the world from fascism, Russia is making everything to preserve the truth both at governmental level by declassifying archive documents and at national by carefully commemorating lives of war heroes and their deaths.

Modern Russian families know every ancestor who made ultimate sacrifice in war and, cherishing the memories of them, proudly take part in a national march carrying their portraits. Though the lives of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War were cut short, their heirs are determined that the reminiscence of them must live forever. They have become “The Immortal Regiment”.

Trudeau’s regime never got the true meaning of this date. May 9 is the Day to remember that Russia and Canada were brothers-in-arms to defeat Nazism. Alas, today Trudeau’s choice is to fight alongside with the Nazis. What a shame.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry statement on the disruption of the Russian Embassy's Victory Day commemoration ceremony in Poland

🗓 On May 9, Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreyev and Russian Trade Representative to Poland Anton Morozov, together with staff from Russian foreign missions in Warsaw, arrived at the Memorial Cemetery of Soviet Soldiers-Liberators in the Polish capital to lay wreaths and flowers on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War.

A large crowd of “protesters against Russia's aggression in Ukraine” had gathered at the cemetery, preventing the Russian diplomats from reaching the place where the flowers were to be laid at the main monument and thereby disrupting the commemoration event.

The Polish Foreign Ministry was informed in advance of the Embassy's planned ceremony, but the Polish authorities did not prevent the provocation staged by the “protesters.”

❗️ A strong protest will be made to the Polish side. We consider this to be another manifestation of Poland’s unfriendly attitude and, above all, an insult to the memory of over 600,000 Soviet soldiers who died liberating Poland from German occupation and a failure to fulfil obligations to prevent such incidents.

⚠️ The incident once again demonstrates the duplicity of Warsaw's policy of assessing the events of the Second World War and attempts to forget the role of our nation in saving the countries of Europe that were enslaved by Nazi Germany. This policy of the Polish authorities will receive an appropriate response.

🎙 Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov’s answer to a media question on launching the denunciation of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE)

Question: Today, the President of the Russian Federation signed a directive on your appointment as his representative at the review of the denunciation of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) by both chambers of the Federal Assembly. This suggests the conclusion that Russia will soon withdraw from this treaty. Why did Russia take such a step now? After all, it suspended this treaty many years ago.

💬 Sergey Ryabkov: This issue is long overdue. The treaty was signed in 1990 and entered in force in 1992. It has become desperately obsolete. The agreement on adaptation drafted at Russia’s insistence and signed in 1999 has become invalid due to the destructive position of the US and other NATO members.

he NATO countries were de facto obviating the treaty by moving eastward. This is why we had to suspend it in 2007. That said, we left the door open, giving the Western countries an opportunity to reconsider their attitude to the treaty and show common sense. But there was little common sense in the West even at that time and the situation did not improve.

Recently, Helsinki and Stockholm applied for NATO membership. Finland joined NATO and signed an agreement with the US, which created a foundation for deploying American troops on Finnish territory. These events have substantially worsened the military-political situation in Europe. Under the circumstances, the CFE Treaty has finally become a vestige of the past.

☝️ Hence, the President of Russia made a decision to submit a draft law on denunciation of the treaty to the Federal Assembly. <...> Apparently, it is time to take such measures.

🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the abduction of journalist Gonzalo Lira Lopez by Ukraine security services.

💬 On May 5, we learned that the Security Service of Ukraine detained Chilean journalist and producer Gonzalo Angel Quintilio Lira Lopez. His lot remains unknown at this point.

The Latin American video blogger had been commenting on the events in Ukraine from the epicenter. He explained in detail the sources of the crisis and covered the atrocities of the Nazis, which was not to their taste once again.

This is not his first disappearance. A little more than a year ago (on April 15, 2022) he stopped contacting other people. It turned out that he was being held by Ukrainian secret services who had seized his notebooks and deprived him of access to his accounts. Then they had to release him because of the broad media coverage of his disappearance.

The Security Service of Ukraine is holding him once again, and we urge the journalist community to defend our colleague and demand his immediate release.

❗️ In the year of the 50th anniversary of the fascist state coup in Chile, we need to prevent a very similar repetition of those events in Ukraine. The coup led to the forced disappearance of thousands of Chileans, including journalists.

☝️ We hope for solidarity from the Chilean authorities that consider themselves Salvador Allende’s spiritual heirs.

📅 On May 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Faisal Mekdad at the Foreign Ministry.

During the trust-based talks, the heads of the two foreign ministries discussed current issues on the international and regional agendas. They had an in-depth discussion on the situation evolving in Syria and around it, with a focus on the efforts to promote the comprehensive settlement of the Syrian crisis based on the effective role of the Astana format.

☝️ Special attention was given to the issues of a constructive dialogue between Damascus and other countries in the region based on the principles of unconditional respect for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. In this context, the two Foreign Ministers noted positive dynamics in the process of restoring Syria’s ties with the Arab countries ahead of the [upcoming] League of Arab States Summit in Saudi Arabia.

While discussing the humanitarian situation in Syria, the two ministers emphasised the need for stepping up international relief efforts following the recent earthquake in Syria, as well as international aid to Damascus to help it rebuild the country after the end of the conflict. They also stressed the importance of further active efforts to motivate Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons to return to their places of residence by creating appropriate conditions that will allow them to make a living.

🤝 The two Foreign Ministers reviewed the priority objectives for continuing to strengthen the diverse partnership between Russia and Syria, including efforts to promote economic cooperation and trade.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video address to the participants in the 13th session of the Arctic Council

💬 The Arctic region, which is playing an increasingly important role in world politics and the economy, is one of Russia's priorities.

As a country presiding in the Arctic Council in 2021-2023, Russia has invariably acted in line with the common interest, which is to ensure the sustainable and safe development of the entire Arctic region, the wellbeing of the Arctic population, including the indigenous peoples of the North.

The Russian presidency’s comprehensive programme was oriented towards achieving these objectives. More than 100 themed forums, some of them with international participants, were held as part of the programme.

☝️ Unfortunately, the Council’s full-scale activity was suspended by Western member countries under the absolutely far-fetched pretext that it related to the situation in Ukraine, which was provoked by the Western countries themselves. We consider this step by our Western colleagues politically motivated and counterproductive as it leads to a disintegration of collective approaches to the responsible management of the Arctic.

However, we still believe that the Arctic states bear a special responsibility for the consistent development of this region. It is our understanding that further effective work and the future of the Arctic Council in general will depend on whether we can find possibilities to continue a civilised dialogue in the interests of preserving the Arctic as a territory of peace, stability and constructive cooperation.
