Armed men in military uniforms from private military companies are now guarding the "shadow fleet" tankers in the Baltic Sea, according to the Swedish Navy.

As Sveriges Television reports, the Swedish Navy has information about the presence on board of Russian "shadow fleet" ships of armed personnel, presumably from private military companies.

"We have seen and received information that there are people in military uniforms on board some of these Shadow Fleet vessels," says the head of the Swedish Navy's operations department, Marco Petkovic.

In addition, the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy has significantly expanded its presence in the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea, especially in several special zones adjacent to the waterways. Most likely, these maneuvers are also aimed at protecting oil tankers.

"The Russian naval presence has become more permanent and now extends to a significant part of the Baltic Sea," says Marco Petkovic.
