San Francisco federal workers advised to work remotely because of safety concerns

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has told its hundreds of employees in San Francisco that it’s too dangerous to come in to the office.

HHS issued the stay-home recommendation in an Aug. 4 memo to regional leaders.

“In light of the conditions at the (Federal Building) we recommend employees … maximize the use of telework for the foreseeable future,” the memo says.

The area is reportedly home to one of the city’s most brazen open-air drug markets on a daily basis.

New York City bans TikTok on city-owned devices

New York City has decided to ban the use of TikTok on devices owned by the city and has mandated that government agencies delete the app within 30 days.

This decision was made following an assessment conducted by the NYC Cyber Command, during which it was determined that TikTok presented a risk to the security of the city’s technical networks. With immediate effect, city staff are no longer allowed to download or utilize the TikTok app, and they are also restricted from accessing the TikTok website on any devices owned by the city.

It's probably all passing under the guise of the 'Chinese threat,' but it's worth getting rid of this app at least for the sake of mental health.

❌ Transgender women banned from women's chess events

The International Chess Federation says it is temporarily banning transgender women from competing in its women's events. The FIDE said individual cases would require "further analysis" and that a decision could take up to two years.

In its policy decision, FIDE also said that trans men who had won women's noscripts before transitioning would see their noscripts abolished.

Chess is classified as a sport by the International Olympic Committee.
