Russia and Venezuela have agreed to increase strategic cooperation and to continue building a united front to promote multipolarity and justice in global issues.

President Nicolás Maduro received Lavrov at Miraflores Palace, where he pledged support for the Kremlin’s fight against the current rise of Nazism. He also called to “reinforce and strengthen the entire strategic map of comprehensive cooperation” between the two countries under their “unbreakable” friendship.

“Russia is advancing on all fronts […] They have resisted and now they are advancing. Venezuela supports Russia in its fight against the Nazis […] it is our fight too,” affirmed Maduro.

On Tuesday, local officials reported that a wall collapsed at the “Bulla Loca” open-pit mine in Bolívar state, southeastern Venezuela, engulfing miners and injuring dozens. Around 200 people were reportedly working in the mine when a 30-meter hole opened. The tragedy was caught on video.

Edgar Colina Reyes, Bolívar state’s secretary of citizen security, said on Wednesday that rescue teams were deployed with the military, firefighters, civic protection and many other organizations joining forces. The operation could extend for a month as the area is swept and secured.

Also on Wednesday, President Nicolás Maduro regretted the tragedy and said that more rescue teams were being flown in from Caracas to aid in the search. He also sent his condolences to the families of the deceased miners and pledged to guarantee them “all the social, personal and human support.”

Venezuela’s National Assembly (AN) President Jorge Rodríguez announced that the nationwide dialogue process to craft an electoral schedule had yielded an agreement endorsed by all participating parties.

Signed by 152 representatives from diverse sectors of Venezuelan society, the document proposes 27 potential dates for this year’s presidential vote and will be formally presented to the National Electoral Council (CNE) on Friday for its review. The electoral authorities are expected to announce an electoral calendar by the end of March.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Rodríguez said the agreement also gathered around 500 proposals on issues regarding broad aspects of the upcoming electoral process, which contain electoral guarantees for all political parties, equal opportunities for campaigning in national television and social media channels, updating the electoral registry, and inviting international observers as long as they comply with Venezuelan laws and Constitution.

"Hugo Chávez, the founder of Venezuela’s ELAM, believed that healthcare was a universal right, and international solidarity was at the center of his politics," young medical student Vanessa Almeida told Venezuelanalysis in our latest interview.

Almeida (from Brazil) and fellow student John Chikuike Ogbu (from Nigeria) discuss this internationalist project and the fight to implement healthcare as a human right and not as a commodity.

"Chávez dreamed that the ELAM would become an international community, and that is precisely what has been achieved."

Stop the genocide!

Venezuelan social movements united with millions worldwide to protest in solidarity with Palestine, calling for an immediate halt to the US-backed Israeli military operations in Gaza.

The march began at El Panal Commune in Caracas’ 23 de Enero neighborhood, known for its rich history of revolutionary activism, ending with a concentration near the Mountain Barracks, President Hugo Chávez’s resting place and the outpost from where he led the 1992 uprising.

In the rally, Hindu Anderi, a Lebanese-Venezuelan journalist and longstanding Palestinian solidarity activist, criticized multilateral organizations for their failure to halt the genocide in Gaza. She called to create new organizations that respond to people’s demands and address global injustices.

Venezuelan feminist collectives staged a concentration in Caracas to demand the prioritization of labor and women’s rights amidst new elections and threats of reinstated US sanctions.

In a rally for International Working Women’s Day on Friday, dozens gathered in Plaza Venezuela, the center of the capital, to draw attention to working-class women’s living conditions and ratify demands that have gone unheard over the years.

Interviewed by Venezuelanalysis, Suhey Ochoa from the feminist organization Pan y Rosas (Bread and Roses) said that Venezuelan women are currently in need of three fundamental rights: legal, safe, and free abortion, better salaries to cover basic living costs, and shelters and economic assistance for women who suffer from gender-based violence.
