GM - CPI report came in as expected showing a decline in inflation for December and prompting responses from the likes of the Fed's Patrick Harker that "the days of 75bps are surely behind us". initial reaction was a small move lower as short term speculative money that was long for a < 6.5% number was flushed out but feels like the market wants to move higher led by DXY weakness on expectations this could give the Fed room to slow down on rate hikes (note equities and crypto were quickly bid back up).

Desk has seen some selling in both BTC and ETH (trimming of longs) . Both BTC and ETH have managed to break above some large technical levels (100 dma for BTC and 200 dma for ETH) that had provided resistance over last year which is normally a pre-curser for further momentum buying. ETH/BTC cross to continue to rally (~10% away from the highs seen in Sep just pre the merge). Now, BTC at 18,163 and ETH 1403. The pump overnight attributed to continuation of momentum and some signs on spot / derivs of funds being forced into the market as capitulation levels starting to be reached ($18k BTC / $1400 ETH). Alt coins holding up. AVAX +24% since its announcement of a partnership with AWS. Overall, its a constructive narrative for use of blockchain technology.

Both equities and crypto are moving higher on the back of the US inflation print. The CPI index fell 0.1% in December, in line with expectations, while CPI rose 6.5% on an annual basis, also in line with expectations. Core inflation rose 5.7% annually as well. This print shows that price pressures may have peaked and now puts the Fed on track to slow the pace of rate hikes. Fed fund futures are now pricing in a 25 basis point hike for the February meeting. Philadelphia Fed president Patrick Harker said the Fed should increase rates in 25 basis point increments going forward. Both BTC and ETH continue their push higher, now trading at $18,200 and $1,400, respectively. Both are up over 4% over the last 24 hours.

Across the FalconX desk over the last 24H, BTC crossed the desk 3.7x as much as ETH, with buy/sell ratios at 1.03:1 and 0.35:1, respectively. Overall buy/sell ratio on desk was 0.55:1, broken down as 0.85:1 in majors and 0.5:1 in alts. Majors crossed the desk 1.2x as much as alts. Both hedge funds and retail personas were buyers of majors and sellers of alts.
