Ibn Abbās رضي الله عنه reported to have said :
"Whoever loves for the sake of Allāh, and hates for the sake of Allāh, and whoever seals a friendship for His sake, or declares an enmity for His sake, will receive, because of this, the protection of Allāh.
No one may taste true faith except by this, even if his prayers and fasts are many. People have come to build their relationships around the concerns of the world, but it will not benefit them in any way."
Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali رحمه الله | Jami' al-Ulum wal Hikam | p.30

Allah عز وجل is the First without beginning and the Last without end. Allah the Most High says:
﴿ هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ﴾
“He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (noting is nearer than Him).” [Qur’an 57: 3]
(These are) names with opposite (meanings): The First is the opposite of the Last and the Most High is the opposite of the Most Near. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم explained this verse in his saying:
أنت الأول فليس قبلك شيء، وأنت الآخر فليس بعدك شيء، وأنت الظاهر فليس فوقك شيء، وأنت الباطن فليس دونك شيء.
“You are the First and nothing is before You; You are the Last and nothing is after You; You are the Most High and nothing is above You; and You are the Most Near and nothing is Nearer than You.”*
* Sahīh Muslim (4/8402 No 2713) from the Hadīth of Abī Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه).

It is reported that Sufyān Al-Thawrī said:
“A man who wanted to write ḥadīth would [learn] manners and worship for twenty years before starting.”
[Abū Nu’aym | Ḥilyatu Al-Awliyā | 6:361]
“A man who wanted to write ḥadīth would [learn] manners and worship for twenty years before starting.”
[Abū Nu’aym | Ḥilyatu Al-Awliyā | 6:361]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله :
The traveller will reach his destination if he continues on his way, adheres to the right path, and wakes up at night (for worship).
But he who strays from the right path and sleeps at night, how can he reach his destination?
[al-Fawaa'id, p160]

But he who strays from the right path and sleeps at night, how can he reach his destination?
[al-Fawaa'id, p160]
“He [Shaytaan] said, ‘For leaving me to stray I will lie in ambush for them on Your Straight Path. I will approach them from their front, their back, their right, their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful.’” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:16-17)
It is reported that Ibn Abbas commented:
“I will approach from their front” means raising doubts in them concerning their Hereafter;
“from their back” means making them more eager for this life;
“from their right” means causing them confusion in the religion; and
“from their left” means luring them to commit sins.
But notice he did not say that he will come from above – why?
Because the mercy of Allah descends from above!
