Title: Measurement of Believability of Agents and Playability of Games via Environmental Analysis
Authors: Kiavash Fathi, Mehdi Mahdavi
Abstract: Game developers have used different techniques to increase the entertainment quality of video games for many years. Methods used in conventional hard-coded methods like state-machine tend to create predefined and limited behavior patterns and thus not considered desirable. In the recent years, with the development and improvement of machine learning algorithms, developers have the tendency to use these novel tools to create different agents in video games. Although, these new methods expand the behavior pattern of agents, but there is still a need for measurements by which the believability of agents and playability of games can be determined. In this paper a novel method for measuring the above-mentioned key issues is introduced. The proposed method is based on environmental analysis of the game level. Such a method can be used as a benchmark for comparing the behavior of different agents according to the previously gathered data from other players and agents.
