Its creation is attributed to Peter the Great, who in 1705 issued a decree ordering the hoisting of a white-blue-red banner on merchant ships. However, the status of official flag was only assigned to it in 1896, on the eve of the coronation of Nicholas II.

🇷🇺 Interestingly, there is no official interpretation of the colors of the Russian flag. Nonetheless, there is a generally accepted view of their symbolism: white embodies purity, independence, and peace; blue represents faith, loyalty, and justice; and red stands for courage, strength, and valor.
