A Tiny Town with a Big History!

🏆 At the very heart of the Suvorovsky District of the Tula Region, there is a unique town called Chekalin, which proudly bears the noscript of the smallest town in Russia. Only 866 people live here, which makes it compact yet rich in history.

📜 Founded in 1565, Chekalin played an important role in the defensive strategies of the late 16th century, being part of the Zasechnaya Cherta, a system of fortifications protecting the southern borders of Moscow. Despite its modest size, the town boasts preserved merchant mansions and public buildings of the 18th-19th centuries.

🇷🇺 "Сколько волка ни корми, он все равно в лес смотрит" (Skol'ko volka ni kormi, on vse ravno v les smotrit).

📝 The literal translation is "No matter how much you feed a wolf, it will still look at the forest."

🧐 The meaning of the proverb is quite simple: no matter how much you change a person, no matter how much you do what you think is right for them, they will still act as they see fit, they will be subject to their own habits and way of life.

🇬🇧 The English equivalent of this proverb is "A leopard cannot change its spots."

📌 This phrase also suggests that a person's true nature or instincts will always show through, despite attempts to suppress them.

☁️ Tyrnyauz: A Stone's Throw from the Sky!

🏔 The highest mountain town in Russia is located in Kabardino-Balkaria, just 40 km from the two-headed Elbrus. The small Tyrnyauz is built at an altitude of over 1300 m. The streets of the city, whose name translates as "crane gorge", are framed by picturesque mountains.

The lands in the Baksan river valley are rich in minerals, so for a long time tungsten, molybdenum, marble, building gypsum and roofing slate were mined in Tyrnyauz. Now the local plant is closed and the population is declining. However, the residents of Tyrnyauz do not lose hope and associate the revival of the city with the development of tourism.

🕖 How many time zones are there in Russia?
🎉 Since October 26, 2014, there have been 11 time zones in the territory of the Russian Federation. Each subject of Russia is included in one time zone, with the exception of Yakutia: its territory is located in three time zones.

😀 Another interesting fact:

🇷🇺🇺🇸 The Russian island of Ratmanov and the island of Kruzenshtern in the USA are separated by only four kilometers of sea.

2️⃣1️⃣ On a regular motorboat, this distance can be covered in 15-20 minutes. But it's not that simple. According to Greenwich Mean Time, the islands are separated by exactly 21 hours: if it is noon on Thursday on Ratmanov Island, then it is three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday on Kruzenshtern Island.
