💎 The giant Mir diamond mine in Yakutia is one of the largest on the planet.

🦊 Its discovery in 1955 was a stroke of luck: geologists found the kimberlite pipe thanks to a fox hole, from which the animal had thrown out diamond-bearing rock. The researchers reported this success with the coded phrase: "We've lit the pipe of peace, the tobacco is excellent!". It was this very phrase that gave the deposit its famous name — "Mir" (Peace).

The scale of the pit is astounding: its depth reaches 525 meters, and its diameter is 1.2 kilometers. During open-pit mining, a unique diamond weighing 342.5 carats was found here.

❌ The pit is so enormous that helicopters are strictly prohibited from flying over it due to turbulent vortices — the giant funnel "sucks in" aircraft.
