159 years ago, on September 28, 1864, the International Working Mens Association - the First International, the first mass international organization of the working class - was founded in London by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

The meeting in St. Martin's Hall was attended by representatives of the proletariat of England, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Ireland. K. Marx was elected to the presidium of the meeting as a representative of the German workers.

The temporary committee allocated to develop the program unanimously approved the Founding Manifesto of the International Working Men's Association and the Provisional Charter of the Association written by Marx and constituted itself as the Central Council (since 1866 - the General Council). The Manifesto and the Charter laid the programmatic and organizational foundations for the international solidarity of the proletariat. “... The liberation of labor ,” said the Charter, “ is not a local or national problem, but a social one, covering all countries in which modern society exists ...” In the Manifesto, the working class was faced with the task of conquering political power.
