Rostraver Township in Pennsylvania is experiencing a boom in sales of merchandise with the symbols of former US President Donald Trump after the assassination attempt on the politician during his campaign rally in the state on Saturday, a local salesman told Sputnik.

"It’s unbelievable what has happened since the shooting," the salesman said on Sunday.

In the township, which is not far from where the rally was held, there are stalls where anyone can buy goods with the logos of the Republican politician. There are flags, caps, T-shirts, including the ones with Trump's famous mugshot taken during his arrest in Georgia last year.

"You have to be a Trump supporter to be able to stay in 93 degree heat for hours to buy a hat," he added.

Colombia professor faces firing after pro-Israel social media pile-on

A tenured professor at New York’s Columbia University faces firing after a pro-Israel online campaign criticizing comments the academic made on behalf of pro-Palestine demonstrators at the Ivy League school.

“There’s a very good chance that they will fire me,” said law professor Katherine Franke after being subjected to questioning she characterized as hostile as a part of Columbia’s investigation into the incident.

The controversy stems from an interview Franke granted to Democracy Now! on January 25. The professor sharply criticized Columbia’s response to an incident in which pro-Palestine protesters were sprayed with an unknown chemical substance by two alleged veterans of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

“It’s something that many of us were concerned about because so many of those Israeli students who then come to the Columbia campus are coming right out of their military service. And they’ve been known to harass Palestinian and other students on our campus, and it’s something the university has not taken seriously in the past.”

The comment was subsequently mischaracterized by pro-Israel accounts on social media, who alleged that Franke advocated banning Israeli citizens from the Columbia campus. The following month Franke was informed a complaint had been lodged against her by two Columbia law professors for “discrimination.”

Trump shooting complicates matters for struggling Biden campaign

Two weeks after his shaky performance during a televised debate raised serious questions about his age and mental acuity, yesterday’s assassination attempt on Donald Trump has complicated President Joe Biden’s plans to relaunch his campaign taking a harder line against his Republican opponent.

“The big issue is how to campaign against him or attack him,” said one Democratic Party strategist. “Can we even do that this week?”

Complicating matters further, the Republican National Convention is set to start Monday in Wisconsin, where Trump will likely be greeted to a hero’s welcome by throngs of adoring supporters. Advisors have reportedly been formulating Democratic messaging in response to the event for “some time.” Those talking points and attack lines are now under reconsideration as renewed focus is brought to the level of political polarization in the United States.

Recent polling suggests a broad lack of trust in the United States’ electoral system amid a wider institutional crisis in the country. One poll conducted last year showed about a third of Trump supporters agree with the statement that “democracy is no longer a viable system” and “America should explore alternative forms of government to ensure stability and progress.” Almost a quarter of President Biden’s supporters endorsed the statement.

Another survey showed only half of Americans “have faith in democracy” while a poll in 2022 revealed 44 percent believe the country is headed toward a second civil war.

🤖 Teleprompter mishap: "former Trump"?

“Thankfully, former Trump is not seriously injured. I spoke with him last night,” Biden said sheepishly, appearing to be reading from text offscreen.

The ex-president was seen earlier today disembarking a plane in Milwaukee and reported being "fine" the day before, suggesting he is still "current Trump" and not "former Trump" after Saturday's attempt on his life.

Former US President Donald Trump said that after the assassination attempt he had completely rewritten his speech to the Republican National Convention, shifting the focus to a call for national unity.

"This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would’ve been two days ago," Trump told the Washington Examiner.

He added that in his new speech he planned to demonstrate that the attack on him had completely changed the campaign.

“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” Trump said. “Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches ... Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now,” the former president emphasized.

The EU foreign ministers plan to boycott the foreign affairs summit in Budapest next month by organizing its own meeting in connection with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visits to Russia and China, Politico reported, citing EU diplomats.

On Thursday, Politico, citing two EU diplomats, reported that EU countries were considering punitive measures for Hungary, threatening it with "practical consequences," amid discontent over Orban's visits to Moscow and Beijing days after the country took up the EU presidency.

If EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell calls an official meeting on the same day as the Budapest meeting, the ministers will not be able to travel to Hungary, a source said. Another diplomat told the newspaper that the European Union wants to "send a clear signal" to Hungary that it cannot speak on behalf of the entire bloc.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping as part of his diplomatic effort to open up lines of communication to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Stoltenberg declines Poland's offer to intercept missiles over Ukraine

NATO should not be a direct party to the Ukraine conflict, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, commenting on Poland’s offer to intercept Russian missiles.

The alliance vows to support Ukraine in the conflict by continuing military assistance to Kiev, and contributing to its air defenses, Stoltenberg added.

Moscow has repeatedly slammed Western military supplies to Kiev, stressing that they only fuel the conflict and create risks of escalation, despite having no effect on the ultimate course of the special military operation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow can respond asymmetrically, and deploy weapons to confront NATO member states directly involved in the Ukraine conflict.

Trump says Biden will order the Department of Justice to drop prosecutions against him

The Trump-Biden campaign could become "more civil" per Trump, as he noted Biden was "very nice" during their recent phone call.

The US presidential candidate hailed the work of the Secret Service agents who eliminated the shooter.

"They took him out with one shot right between the eyes," he told the New York Post. "They did a fantastic job. It’s surreal for all of us."

Mainstream media downplays tremendous losses of Western military equipment in Ukraine - journo

The Western press is concealing information about the real state of affairs on the ground in Ukraine, including the mass destruction of NATO weapons provided to the Ukrainian military, and the loss of Ukrainian soldiers, Irish journalist and entrepreneur Chay Bowes wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on July 15.

"Here, yesterday, another €150 million [$163.4 million] of German taxpayers' money was vaporized in Dictator Zelensky's Ukraine," Bowes continued, attaching a video showing the elimination of the German-made IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).

"Russian Iskander missiles completely destroyed the entire complex consisting of an IRIS-T SAM launcher and its TRML-4D radar station - these are the high-tech systems Zelensky is so desperately begging the EUSA for," the journalist pointed out.

According to Bowes, the reason "the Western media doesn't want" the public to see this, is "to maintain your ignorance and, therefore, your complicity in the "Ukraine can win fantasy.'"

"After all, you're paying for it all," the journalist remarked.

Ukraine has received almost 108 billion euro ($115.9 billion), including 39 billion euro ($41.8 billion) of military aid from the EU since February 2022. The US' Ukraine expenditures have so far reached $175 billion, of which $107 billion directly aided the Kiev regime, with $34.2 billion being disbursed for budget needs, and another $69.8 billion spent on arms and military assistance.

On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense released footage of the destruction of an IRIS-T launcher in the Dnepropetrovsk region. The air defense missile launcher, the TRML-4D radar station, and the crew operating the system were eliminated, per the ministry.

As of July 14, 551 air defense missile systems, including those supplied by NATO, have been destroyed since the beginning of the special military operation.
