السادس عشر:

Whoever is used to seeking revenge and is not patient,
أن من اعتاد الانتقام ولم يصبر،

He will certainly fall into oppression.
لابد أن يقع في الظلم،

For one's self is such, that it does not limit itself to the proportion of justice that is required.
فإن النفس لا تقتصر على قدر العدل الواجب لها.

Al-Mutawallī and other than him said:
قَالَ الْمُتَوَلِّي وَغَيْرُهُ

“If the fasting person rinses his mouth he has to spit out the water,
إذَا تَمَضْمَضَ الصَّائِمُ لَزِمَهُ مَجُّ الْمَاءِ

He does not have to dry his mouth with a piece of cloth or the like.
وَلَا يَلْزَمُهُ تَنْشِيفُ فَمِهِ بِخِرْقَةٍ

We know of no ikhtilāf (scholarly dispute) on this.”
وَنَحْوِهَا بِلَا خِلَافٍ

“The truth is that which the first Jamā'ah were upon from the time of the Prophet ﷺ and his Sahābah (Companions).

It is not about having a lot of knowledge.
ليس هو كثرة العِلْم،

How many men who have a lot of knowledge are not firmly grounded.”

This is the best evidence for the recommendation to bath on the two ʿĪd celebrations, narrated by al-Bayhaqī:
" فائدة ": وأحسن ما يستدل به على استحباب الاغتسال للعيدين ما روى البيهقى

A man once asked ʿAlī – Allah be pleased with him – about taking a full bath (ġusl).
من طريق الشافعى عن زاذان قال: سأل رجل عليا رضى الله عنه عن الغسل؟

He replied, “Wash every day if you want.”
قال: اغتسل كل يوم إن شئت،

The man said, “No, what I mean is al-ġusl.”
فقال: لا، الغسل الذى هو الغسل،

ʿAli replied, “al-Jumuʿah (Friday), the Day of ʿArafah, the Day of al-Naḥr (sacrificial slaughter, ʿĪd al-Adhā) and the Day of al-Fiṭr (the ʿĪd following Ramaḍān).”
قال: يوم الجمعة، ويوم عرفة، ويوم النحر، ويوم الفطر.

The chain of narration is authentic.
وسنده صحيح.

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Whoever goes to sleep in a state of purity will have an angel over his head and he will not awaken until the angel says: O Allāh, forgive your servant for he has slept with ablution.”

“It is not befitting for the husband, if he is a true Muslim, to take advantage of/misuse this ruling therefore transgressing against his wife,
ولكن لا ينبغي للزوج - إذا كان مسلما صادقا - أن يستغل هذا الحكم، فيتجبر على زوجته،

Preventing her from spending her wealth in that which there's no good upon her from him.
ويمنعها من التصرف في مالها فيما لا ضير عليهما منه،

Therefore, if her husband transgressed against her and prevented her from spending her money in a manner that is legislated, then the judge is to straighten out the affair and give her justice.”
وما أشبه هذا الحق بحق ولي البنت التي لا يجوز لها أن تزوج نفسها بدون إذن وليها، فإذا أعضلها رفعت الأمر إلى القاضي الشرعي لينصفها

“Whoever from these heretics claims that the Qur'ān is created,

Has indeed claimed that Allāh is created!”
فَقَدْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَخْلُوقٌ

“As for Al-Ihyā ('Ulūm ad-Dīn of Al-Ghazzālī), it contains a large number of baseless ahadīth.
قُلْتُ: أَمَّا (الإِحيَاء) فَفِيْهِ مِنَ الأَحَادِيْثِ البَاطِلَة جُمْلَةٌ،

There is much good in it if only it did not have in it the manners, ways and asceticism of the philosophers and misguided Sufis.
وَفِيْهِ خَيْر كَثِيْر لَوْلاَ مَا فِيْهِ مِنْ آدَاب وَرسوم وَزُهْد مِنْ طرَائِق الحكمَاء وَمُنحَرِفِي الصُّوْفِيَّة

We ask Allāh for beneficial knowledge;
نَسْأَل اللهَ عِلْماً نَافِعاً،

Do you know what beneficial knowledge is?
تَدْرِي مَا العِلْمُ النَّافِع؟

It is what has been revealed in the Qur'ān,
هُوَ مَا نَزل بِهِ القُرْآنُ،

And interpreted by the Messenger ﷺ.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَ: نا مَحْفُوظُ بْنُ بَحْرٍ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ قَالَ: ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ التَّمِيمِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:

Three things lead to destruction, and three things lead to salvation, three things lead to the expiation of sins and three things which raise you in levels:
«ثَلَاثٌ مُهْلِكَاتٌ، وَثَلَاثٌ مُنَجِّيَاتٍ، وَثَلَاثٌ كَفَّارَاتٌ، وَثَلَاثٌ دَرَجَاتٌ.

As for the three things that lead to destruction they are:
فَأَمَّا الْمُهْلِكَاتُ:

1. Stinginess which is obeyed.
فَشُحٌّ مُطَاعٌ،

2. (Sinful) desires which are followed.
وَهَوًى مُتَّبَعٌ،

3. And a person being amazed with himself (self admiration).
وَإِعْجَابُ الْمَرْءِ بِنَفْسِهِ.

As for the three things which lead to salvation they are:
وَأَمَّا الْمُنَجِّيَاتُ:

1. Being just when angry or pleased.
فَالْعَدْلُ فِي الْغَضَبِ،

2. Being moderate when in poverty or in richness.
وَالرِّضَى، وَالْقَصْدُ فِي الْفَقْرِ، وَالْغِنَى،

3. And having fear of Allāh in secret and in open.
وَخَشْيَةُ اللَّهِ فِي السِّرِّ، وَالْعَلَانِيَةِ.

And as for the things that lead to the sins being expiated they are:
وَأَمَّا الْكَفَّارَاتُ:

1. To wait for the next prayer after having prayed the previous prayer.
فَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ،

2. Completing wudhū during severe cold.
وَإِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ فِي السَّبَرَاتِ،

3. To walk to the congregational prayer.
وَنَقْلُ الْأَقْدَامِ إِلَى الْجَمَاعَاتِ.

And as for the things that will raise you in levels they are:
وَأَمَّا الدَّرَجَاتُ:

1. To feed the people.
فَإِطْعَامُ الطَّعَامِ،

2. To spread the greeting of salām.
وَإِفْشَاءُ السَّلَامِ،

3. And to pray at night whilst the people are asleep.
وَصَلَاةٌ بِاللَّيْلِ، وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ»

Al-Ṭufayl b. Ubay b. Ka’b narrated that he used to come to ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar (may Allāh be pleased with him) and go with him to the market.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الطَّرَائِفِيُّ، قَالَ: نا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: نا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، فِيمَا قَرَأَ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّ الطُّفَيْلَ بْنَ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْتِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ فَيَغْدُو مَعَهُ إِلَى السُّوقِ،

He said, “Whenever we went to the market, ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar would never pass a cheap goods merchant, a seller, a poor person or anyone else except that he would greet them with salāms.”
فَإِذَا غَدَوْنَا إِلَى السُّوقِ لَمْ يَمُرَّ عَبْدُ اللهِ عَلَى سَقَاطٍ وَلَا صَاحِبِ بَيْعِهِ، وَلَا مِسْكِينٍ وَلَا أَحَدٍ إِلَّا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ،

He continued, “So I came to him one day and he asked me to go to the market with him.
قَالَ الطُّفَيْلُ: فَجِئْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَوْمًا فَاسْتَتْبَعَنِي إِلَى السُّوقِ،

I said, ‘And what are you going to do at the market? You never stop to buy anything, you never ask about goods, you never price anything and you never sit in the market gatherings.'
قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: وَمَا تَصْنَعُ بِالسُّوقِ؟ وَإِنَّهُ لَا تَقْفُ عَلَى الْبَيْعِ، وَلَا تَسْأَلُ عَنِ السِّلَعِ، وَلَا تَسُومُ بِهَا، وَلَا تَجْلِسُ فِي مَجَالِسِ السُّوقِ؟

And he continued, “Sit with us here and we can talk.”
قَالَ: وَأَقُولُ: اجْلِسْ بِنَا ههُنَا نَتَحَدَّثُ،

So he (Ibn 'Umar) said to me, ‘O Abū Baṭn (i.e. possessor of the belly; Al-Ṭufayl had a big belly)! We only go out for salāms, to greet those we meet.’’”
فَقَالَ لِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ: \" يَا أَبَا بَطْنٍ - وَكَانَ الطُّفَيْلُ ذَا بَطْنٍ -، إِنَّمَا نَغْدُو مِنْ أَجْلِ السَّلَامِ نُسَلِّمُ عَلَى مَنْ لَقِينَا \"

Sayyār reported from Riyāh who said:
عن سيار قال: حدثني رياح قال:

“A woman was mentioned to me, so I married her.
ذكرت لي امرأة فتزوجتها،

Whenever she finished praying 'Ishā, she would perfume herself, adorn herself with incense and wear her (fine) clothes;
فكانت إذا صلت العشاء الآخرة تطيبت وتدخنت ولبست ثيابها

Then she would approach me and ask: ”Do you have a need?“
ثم تأتيني فتقول: ألك حاجة؟

If I said yes,
فإن قلت: نعم،

She would stay with me.
كانت معي،

And if I said no,
وإن قلت: لا،

She would take off her (fine) clothes and stand up for (prayer) until the morning.
قامت فنزعت ثيابها ثم صفت بين قدميها حتى تصبح.

Riyāh said: ”By Allāh, she really delighted me."
قال رياح: ففحتني والله.
