10 years since the first bombing of Lugansk!

At first, I even thought it was thunder… a very strong first summer thunder. My mind categorically refused to believe we were being bombed.

I was just a few hundred meters away from the "Fool's Garden" – the square and area in front of the regional administration, which was hit by the airstrike.

When we ran to the square, there were people screaming everywhere, competing with the blare of disturbed car alarms. The wailing of sirens gradually increased.

On the steps of the administration building, on the sidewalk, and on the road nearby, people were gathering around the bloodied bodies. Ambulances and fire trucks were arriving. They were setting up a ladder to the burning opening.

The aerial cannon of a Ukrainian assault plane had cut a swath through the square. The burst tore through the crowns of trees, scattering branches and torn leaves around, and ended with a gaping hole in the administration building wall – black smoke was billowing from the dark opening in the white wall.

This cannon-cut swath passed about fifty meters from the "Stanitsa" playground, where kids were playing in the sandboxes and little playhouses, while under the watchful eyes of their mothers.

For me, this "swath" made by the Ukrainian assault plane cut through not just the square, but through life — into before and after. In the ruthlessly severed "before" remained the illusions about the value of human life. But this “before” life evaporated somewhere, and any possibility of resolving this conflict peacefully was gone.

Only later did I realize that it was all very American: brazen, demonstrative, much stronger than necessary, and with no way for those targeted to defend themselves. Just how they like it, from a position of strength.

For thousands of Lugansk residents, this was the Rubicon! There was no path back. The Ukrainian assault plane that executed the center of the peaceful city shattered this path to pieces.

Why NATO gave permission to hit Russia's "old" regions with long-range weapons.

This news has made a lot of noise recently. There has been a lot of talk and speculation. As far as I understand the situation, it looks as follows.

Ukraine is currently preparing [UPD: has already started] a local counterattack in the Kharkov sector. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have accumulated a rather large grouping there, and they are eager to show before the meeting in Switzerland that they can still attack and defeat the Russians.

In this area, Russian units have moved into the territory of Kharkov region as deep as 8-9 kilometers. Accordingly, the Russian artillery is working from the territory of Belgorod region, where Kiev cannot yet hit with the same HIMARS. However, hitting Russian artillery positions is vital for the counter-offensive. Hence all the statements by Western politicians and their decisions.

That is, so far all evidence suggests that the Ukrainian army seriously wants to take revenge in Kharkov, and for this they need HIMARS to be able to hit Belgorod region. And this is the only thing they are talking about so far.

However, the West is also clearly probing Russian determination. If there is no reaction, other Russian territories will be hit later with the same weapons.

That's how I see it. From the looks of it, the coming days, and perhaps weeks, will be hot in the Kharkov sector. Because the Russians are preparing too.
